    Microphone for guitar amp recording...

If you want a good guitar/vocal mic then get a blue encore 100i dynamic mic. they're about 100$ and are meant for use like a 57 but they also function really well as a vocal mic.Blue Encore 100 Dynamic Cardioid Handheld Live Performance Microphone

    Bass Through the Interface?

I've heard that the interface has a built in D/I box but I haven't been able to confirm this. Also I would recommend using a D/I box you can get them as cheap as 40$, but if your FT Pro basically has a built in interface then why not? But using a D/I box is a pretty standard practice, unless you...

    mic clips

Greg's right I've heard allot of people give the drum clips a bad rap because of supposed vibration, buts its really all in the clips you use like greg said. If they're metal then or solid plastic then you might hear the vibrations.

Using Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks to record...

I don't mind playing with them for the sake of noise control. I always heard the sticks rubbing together and that annoyed me allot, and they break real easy under normal conditions.

    Microphone Trends

Now there seems to be a big trend in every manufacturer trying to make a mic to compete with the 58'/57'

    Volume levels help

Set it up anyway that it sounds good, just don't have one part of your gain structure turned all the way up and another turned all the way down. Also farview has good advice, listen to em.

    What is a "line-in" microphone?

Ok so REAPER is a free software that you can use. Also just get a cheap interface, most of the 1 or 2 input ones come with mic/line inputs(mic= XLR. Line=1/4 in.) standard, as well as preamps and phantom power(used to power condenser mics). M-audio Fast track pro is a good interface for about...

Help me choose a mic preamp?

I would also say that the FT Pro is a good choice. If you do interviews then you'll want to consider getting a head phone splitter because the FT Pro only has one head phone out. Also It doesn't have a VU(I assume that this is what you meant) but it does have a green indicator light that comes...

    drums with one mic

Recording drums with only one mic isn't necessarily bad its just a different a sound, a sound that some people don't like and some do. I think it would be really cool if you made a really kick ass recording using this idea and just didn't tell anyone unless they asked, or if you wanna brag about...

Does the M -audio ultra pre amps suck?

yeah they some pretty good preamps for what is considered low-end.

Does the M -audio ultra pre amps suck?

I believe that M-audio uses the same pre amps on both the FT pro and the ultra. For the FT pro they sound pretty good in my opinion.

WHat else do I need? Synthesizer? Digital mixer? Preamps? Stands and cables?

Buy a digital Interface(about 100$+). These have instrument/mic inputs(1/4in or XLR) as well as preamps and phantom power. If you buy an interface new it will plug directly into your computer and have directions on setup. Alot of people now just do all of their mixing in their DAW(digital audio...

    Snare Drum Microphone Shootout

I thought the naiant was a little distant sounding, although my favorite is the audix. It has the punchy of the 57 but it just sounded a little warmer to me.

    Rerecording drums

This does sound like it would be a good experiment, do please post your original/re-recorded version for us to hear. Also Dave Grohl is a total homo, of this there is no doubt in my mind.

    Having problems with my interface!

What is your OS? because in vista you have to right click in the sound controller and select show disabled devices. Otherwise it won't recognize your hardware.

Looking for a electronic set of drums

I have found the DD-65 to be quite good for a drum machine that often gets referred to as a toy. It isn't going to give you professional results, because anyone who knows what drums should sound like will know that it was done on a drum machine. To the untrained ear(most people) it won't sound...
