    First post after HOW many years?!?!?

    OK, here we go. After about 3 1/2 years I'm finally posting an original tune in the Clinic. It's a scratch track of the song I plan to submit for the compilation CD - an instrumental called Joyride. It will be re-recorded next week but for now I'm just looking for some constructive criticism...

    3.1.8 - anyone got it?

    You've got mail! I just sent you my download of 3.1.8. I was going to upgrade to 3.2 when I'm done with my song for the compilation CD (note my optimism saying "when" and not "if"!!!). I'm assuming you're talking about problems with that version, so if I'm right what problems were you having...

    3.1.8 - anyone got it?

    I haven't upgraded since 3.0.4, but I've been downloading new versions pretty regularly for a while. I'm at work right now, but I'm pretty sure I have a copy of 3.1.8 at home. I'll check when I get home tonight. Now that i commited to, I hope I actually remember to do it. At my age...

    using n-track with win98

    Never had any majjor problems under 98 either I'm now running n-Track under 200 Pro, but I used it on a 98 system for quite a while and it was pretty stable for me as well. For what it's worth, it would be a joke now but when I bought it and first started using n-Track it was a decent machine...

    static and hum"

    M<y compressor includes a noise gate. When I use my ART Tube MP or Dual MP, which can be noisy at higher gain levels, I use the gate on the compressor to reduce the background noise that's below a certain threshold. That way the signal only goes through when it's abnove the level I specify...

    The Slackmaster2K Appreciation Thread

    Let me clearly and emphatically state that your erection will NOT enter into any bribe offer coming from me. Up until a few days ago I was seriously considering bribery, but the last few nights I've been a music maniac. I programmed the drums (all 68 patterns, f*cking drum machines!!)...

    Comp CD Volume II Submission Deadline

    I haven't noticed many of your posts but based on posts I've seen from other people here, including my own worthless drivel, I'd guess you're far from the stupid end of the spectrum. Hell, you even adminted you might be wrong. Try to find 5 other people who do that!!! :D

    The Slackmaster2K Appreciation Thread

    I'm looking at how hard it is for me to come up with one completed tune to submit to the compilation and I can't imagine how much work it is doing every Slackmaster2K is doing. The contract, the web site, the FAQs, answering question on the Compliation forum, it seems like it doesn't end but...

    just a ?

    For what it's worth, I had no trouble modifying the fields and printing the document. I don't have Acrobat (just Acrobat Reader) so I can't save it, but the modified form printed fine for me.

    Comp CD Volume II Submission Deadline

    Maybe it would be worth posting an announcement that says to look at the announcement? :D

    DI for bass not so great...

    Don't forget the ART Tube MP. Most people don't like it as a mic pre, but for $79 it's a great buy as a bass DI. I also bought a SansAmp Bass Driver a few months ago, which is a lot more flexibile than a one-trick pony like the ART Tube MP. Actually, I started using the SABDDI into the ART...

    Will a 424 work?

    Yep, you'll have all the separation you want recording one track at a time. FWIW, I have a Tascam 414 and have occasionally used it as a mixer as you described. However, I found that I don't get that great a sound tracking it that way. Besides not having a great quality mixer (it's an...

    TWO hard drives - splitting the load

    I haven't bought a second drive yet, but I'm planning to. I was going to put my audio and video editing software on one and all the data (audio/video files) on the other. That way one disk spins for software and the other for data, reducing contention for the disks.

    Is it better to record bass with or w/o compression?

    What Gidge said.

    Would you pay more for a more handsome interface?

    Oops. The 286 is a preamp, isn't it? :o

    dbx 286a pro and audio buddy

    Hang on a second. I saw her question in the n-Track forum and answered her ttere, but I also suggested she post in a more generic forum since n-track wasn't involved. I think she did the right thing by taking it here. Now Joan, you didn't post in lots of forums, did you? :eek:

    Would you pay more for a more handsome interface?

    .. and a little follow-up Since you asked about how you connect up all your gear, you are kind of talking about the audio interface to your PC. So to address your question, you mentioned a condensor mic and a compressor. I'd guess your condensor mic needs a source of phantom power in order to...

    Would you pay more for a more handsome interface?

    Joan, Windows XP is your operating system, or OS. It's what controls how everything works on your PC - accessing disks, printers, and any other devices, gives you your Windows desktop, manages networking, etc. In some respects it IS an interface since it's what you see when you interact with...
