    Hypothetical question

    Gain Overload!

This may sound harsh, but vocal grit is not accomplished by adding distortion. It's accomplished by a talented vocalist. Record clean and if it sounds like crap, that could be the reason. The tools available to us are an aid, but as been said before, there is only so much polish you can put on a...

California King Bed Cover - Kritik my Mix

Hey jeberson12, Great mix, sounds excellent on my system. Don't worry about the seperation. The only thing that threw me off was the video sync with the sound. If you want video, the music must be in sync. I listened again with my eyes closed and it;s great.

Please give opinions on sound quality......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL1ALhn_xZ0

Wow, I didn't expect that! When I check these kind of posts, I'm used to seeing some lugan sceaming some rap garbage bragging about "his beats". Here's my 2 cents worth. You're talent shines, but as mentioned, too much reverb. I think the way you showcase the vid is too make it intimate. You...

New Song - Lost In Texas

Wow Chili, I just thought administrators were nerds:) Great song. My only critique - needs backup vocals. PM me if you want me to add some. I'll be humming this all day!

    No Leaf Clover Vocal Cover

I'm a little confused? If this is a vocal cover, where is the music coming from? Is this Karaoke?

Newbie Looking for Advice Input on mix etc....

Yes levels need to be higher, I had my volume all the way up to hear it. That's easy to fix though. The drums need work, they sound disjointed, not mixed into the song, and a little robotic. How are you doing them? I have trouble with drums, so I try to use groove clips as much as possible. They...

    Need honest, brutal criticism

First, I agree with the comments so far. That said, guitar and vocal talent is great. I just have a problem with the off beat. I would try to tighten that up, almost sounds like one too many beats. Like you said, intentional, but for my taste not my usual. Great potential though. If my first...

io2 express sound card will be used as audio cassette recorder to mp3 or to cd?

It will work, but to get stereo L & R you need to use both line in channels on the Alesis. You will need a patch cord like this: Live Wire 1/8" (TRS) - Dual 1/4" Y Cable and more Audio / RCA Cables at GuitarCenter.com.

    bass dynamics and compression

Compressor is the way to go. Insert on the track and (watch the bitching start) try some presets to get a feel for what they do. Pick one you like and tweak to taste. Simply put, a compressor makes loud sounds quieter and quiet sounds lounder (more bitching will start now) but that's a very...

1:15 hours to mix down a 3 min song?

What are your settings in the export screen. I think that's where your problem lies. I use Sonar 8.53 and a 3 minute song, 25 tracks, tons of vst's renders in about 2 minutes.

    Changing Tempos

Sure, Read up on the "Tempo Map" You can do all kinds of things. I've done a lot of songs where the chorus will be double time or half time. I just change the tempo at the measure I need it.

Vocals Sound Heavily Doubled While Tracking...Help!

You have direct monitoring on in the Focusrite. Turn it off. Input echo lets you hear the output of Sonar and it will have a latency delay. The direct monitor from the Focusrite has no delay, so if you hear both, you get the chorus sound you are hearing.

    Basic bus question

You almost have it. Like guitarplayr82 said make sure the bus is stereo. Insert your verb and make it 100% wet (full reverb). Now, don't send the guitar ttrack to the reverb bus, you insert a "send" on the guitar track. As you increase the send level, you will get more reverb on the guitar sound.

    Smokey Alesis

At this fellows expense, some good lessons can be learned. My favorite is when a guy sees a socket with 3 prongs and a ground (think drier or stove plug). They think that's 230 volt and proceed to cut the end of their welder/chipper/vibrator(construction not the other thing), wire it up to a new...

Where to buy supplies for DIY xlr cables?

Lots of places on-line if you want to go that route. Not sure where you're located, but lots of music stores sell in bulk. Even some electrical wholesalers can get it for you.
