    Multiband compression

NOW THAT MAKES SENSE!! Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy wasn't about sex, it was about compression, or, er, is it the other way round??

Recording for the first time tommarow and want to make sure my plan will work.

The recording will pick up stuff that you don't want on the mixed recording. But you can't mix a stereo recording. What you get can't be changed.

    Multiband compression

I have to disagree. I've slept with 100's of woman since the sixties, and as far as I can tell, it's never been invented.

A free software for handling free drum kits (vst plugin preferably)

I agree, but I'm a lazy fuck and EZD seems the easiest to use.

    How can one be sure?

Use that mic with this guitar and you can't loose: SEAGULL GUITAR SIGNED BY JEFF HEALY 2006 - Mississauga / Peel Region Musical Instruments For Sale - Kijiji Mississauga / Peel Region Canada. Think I could get an extended warranty, that would really sweeten the deal!

    tascam 2488 Neo Stero Dynamics

It is a compressor or expander and can be used for monitoring or final mix. I wouldn't use it for monitoring, but for final mix, it could be very useful.

Sonar 6 and POD V2 Midi Probs

When you play back, make sure the "R" button is checked. The "R" is for read, and the "W" is for wright. Read and wright midi that is. Whithout the "R" button checked, Sonar will ignore the midi you recorded.

    Tracks bleeding into each other

Need more info to help. Do you mean you hear 1st track while recording the second, or is the 1st track actually recording on the second.

Pair of Condenser mics costing around 100 for both

Interesting guitaristic. I'd swear the CAD mics are identical to the Alesis I have. I wonder if Alesis buys them from CAD and private labels them.

    MIDI and Recording

You probably are recording to the wrong input. If you get one side on stereo, swith the input from left to right or visa versa. Or, you can record one sided stereo, and them switch that to mono. To get true stereo, you need an adapter that goes from the headphone jack into 2 inputs to your...

Cakewalk Sonar 7 Home Studio Xl or Sonar 8.5 Essentials

I started with Sonar 6 and am now on 8.5. X1 was a fairly major rework but most of the features are cosmetic. Kind of like going from office2003 to office2007. The biggest possible drawback using Sonar 7 is that it is from the XP days. There is no support for win7 if you are using that. If you...

    MIDI and Recording

To get the actual sound of your keyboard you need to use audio, not midi. If there is no audio out, the headphone jack will work, just watch the level into your interface because this signal is stronger than most line signals. Start with your headphone volume all the way down and slowly increase...

Cakewalk Sonar 7 Home Studio Xl or Sonar 8.5 Essentials

The guts of any X1 version are the same. The difference between the versions is what is included (FX, VST's etc.). Also Essential has a 64 audio track limit, Studio and Producer are unlimited. Here is a good chart comparing them: Cakewalk - X1 Essential - SONAR X1 Comparison Chart

Does an interface completely bypass your computers soundcard?

Your interface is your soundcard. Took me a while to understand this when I first started. Your soundcard should be completely disabled. Latency from software is just a matter of your buffer setting. Lower the buffer, less latency, but at some point, your computer will puke when the buffer is...

    Help me understand..

Never did understand the loyalty to PT. When I started recording a few years ago, I was shocked that you had to have "special hardware" to use PT. That turned me off and I went with Cakewalk as well. I know the new version allows any hardware, but too little too late. And this ACD bullshit...

Need advice on Mixers, Interfaces, Midi Controllers and Mics. Help where ya can guys.

Some quick answers. No to a USB mic. You can only use 1 audio device at a time, so you only want 1 usb device into your computer. I suggest this is an interface. Some mixers will allow multi-channel, but most only feed one stereo pair to your computer (mains out) so you can't actually multi...
