    Which interface should I get?

I have the older Presonus Audiobox USB. Not a fan anymore. Maybe the newer ones are fine but... Mine requires a direct box to reduce the guitar direct input signal enough to my DAW. And I had to get a separate phantom power unit as the onboard has a high pitch hum when active.

Will my new PC be good enough for recording?

For simple recordings of a few tracks with some effects it should be fine. You could add a bit of memory down the road. I use an I5 with 12gb of ram.

    Direct in acoustic guitar tone...

A follow-up: Picked up an AT2035. Huge improvement on my vocals. The Ovation now records exactly as it sounds live (crap). Tried a friends OM-21. It sounds amazing with the mic at the 12th angled to the hole. Even better is how it fits into several mixes I have. Fits my small hands like it was...

    Small Room Acoustics

Wow. The plot thickens with treatment. Never considered the bass passing through the walls! (And yes... A newb here). Now I see how each room is very different! My room I'm starting has basic interior wall insulation on the front and one side exterior wall. The other side wall has closets with...

    Best lighting for basement studio

I'd go with wall sconces. The light will bounce up the ceiling. I getting ready to do that to my upstairs bedroom to studio conversion. I'm going with LED as I don't need the heat of incandescent bulbs. Plus, they will look REALLY cool. ;)

is it better to record e.guitar with amp+mic or directly through mixer?

Was just thinking about this. There is quite the market now for 1/2 to 2 watt amps out there. Some sound like Marshal stacks at conversation levels. Might be another way to go.

    Mic Newb

Given you rap with clarity, maybe look at the AT2035? I just picked one up and really like the "honesty" of it (for lack of a better term). Our styles are different (blues/pop) but your range seems similar to mine. Btw, love that old TV series sample on Forever Hip-Hop! What show was that?

    The first "upgrade" mic

I definatly upgraded when I went from my SM58 to an AT2035. (But that's my first LDC as well).

At home "mastering" with Studio One?

That's great info! Makes perfect since! Make a basic Reaper project "mastering" template . (Well mastering as I'm able to). :)

is it better to record e.guitar with amp+mic or directly through mixer?

I think this whole issue of direct vs not comes from the noise restrictions many of us home players have. I think I've been guilty of asking about this here too. I've tried Guitar Rig but found the results pretty mediocre without a lot of tweaking. My best other than a mic on the amp has been...

At home "mastering" with Studio One?

I'ma little intimidated to post in this section as a newb... But here goes. I've been reading here and there that some use Studio One for mastering because of its project interface (not seen it). As a newb, I'm still learning to mix proper in Reaper. So, I'm not in a position to really ask...

Issues with my first studio condenser mic

One thing to consider when looking at interfaces is their phantom power abilities. Read any reviews you can find of whatever interface you're looking at. As I posted in an earlier thread, my older Presonus Audiobox USB didn't supply enough power to the mic causing a high pitch hum to the mix (I...

    Budget for basic bedroom treatment?

Seems I can get Corning 703 in 4'x8'x2" sheets for under $40., 4" it is. :)

    Budget for basic bedroom treatment?

The bass traps will be 4" in 4 corners to start. The side wall first reflections should be as well?

    Budget for basic bedroom treatment?

That's great! Seems like the best bank for the buck this songwriter could spend! Hopefully start sourcing this weekend. :)

    Budget for basic bedroom treatment?

Here in the US. Just wondering what a ballpark figure would be for my 10' x 11' diy bedroom studio? Thinking to start (I'll modify when I get monitors) this: Floor to ceiling bass traps. (4) 4'x4'x2" First reflection walls (2) 4'x2'x2" Front wall (1) 4'x4'x2" Back wall (2) 4'x4'x2" Cloud...

Monitor size and room size - does it matter?

My issue with a subwoofer for 6" monitors is now we've entered the 8" price point. Also, now I have yet another piece of equipment to deal with. But maybe there's a good reason sonicly to go this way?

Monitor size and room size - does it matter?

Ethan & Jens, Now hope I have a handle on it. Currently I've just been fooling around in an untreated room (headphones) waiting for my niece to move out soon which opens up a designated songwriting "studio" in my upstairs bedroom. As such, I've been waffling about monitor size vs cost. Ideally...

Monitor size and room size - does it matter?

ashcat_lt I'm trying to learn the correct terms for this aspect of music... So by "translate" I'm saying it will be close to the bass or kick drum I recorded (fingers crossed). The monitors "should" represent that in the room - or should I say the room should present the sound from the monitors...

Monitor size and room size - does it matter?

Thanks for the explanations Jens and Ethan! It seems if I go with decent 8" in a treated room, I'll have an easier time translating to the finished sound. Reason enough! :)
