Can someone explain the vast concept of sonic space? I know that may take a while, but maybe just a basic tutorial....what instruments occupy what space, how to separate instruments using eq, comp, etc. That's probably asking a lot, but I need to start somewhere, even if it's a link to somewhere...
If you're just starting out, i say stick with the behringer. It's fine for what you're doing now. If you find the preamps are noisy, as some people do, try turning the effects way down...that's what most people confuse the noisy preamps with. I will say that you should ditch your mic and go for...
i've gotten the best results by stereo micing with 2 mxl603s XY config (you could look up this technique on google). However, before then, i was using a Studio Projects B1 and it was very acceptable. Don't confuse it with the Behringer B1 though, not the same!
Does it allow you to record 4 track simultaneously? I guess i should say, will it allow me to record 4 analog instruments at the same time using the 2 preamps in front and the 2 instrument inputs in the back, or are those disabled when the mics are plugged in? I'm thinking about getting one, but...
the edirol has 2 mic preamps and an additional 6 instrument (1/4in") inputs. It also has SPDIF and Midi in/out. 8 1/4in" outs. It sounds pretty good for the price, but then again, i don't know anyone who has used it yet.
i may just pick one up...someplace like sweetwater has free shipping and they price match. They're price is $600 i think, but i found it for $450 on the web.
with using my overheads, i always have a tape measurer handy :) i always keep both OH about 32-36in. from my snare to make sure the sound reaches the mics at the same time...though it's a crude method, it works for me.
i submix the whole kit into one stereo track. The OH panned hard left/right, one mic on the snare and one on the kick. Just be careful about phase issues w/ the OH
whoops, sorry, the standard is 4200 and i meant ibook, not imac. Good point about external drive, unfortunatly though, since its an ibook, i will be using the only firewire slot for an interface...maybe i could daisy chain it? The reason I have so many questions is because i don't have the ibook...
I know it's relatively new, but has anyone had any experience with this interface? I was looking for a good interface for firewire under $500 that had at least 4 inputs.
the v67 was my first mic, mainly b/c i had no idea what i was doing and it came with a free art tube mp preamp at samash. A lot of people don't like it, but at the same rate, a lot do. Will tame some harsh vocals, but seems a bit too boomy for acoustic guitar. If you position it right though...
thanks mrface, i think i'll take my chances with carryon...while we're on the subject, any suggestions for carrying a mixer? the dimensions are (HxWxD) 5 3/8" (136mm) x 16 1/2" (418mm) x 17 1/4" (438mm). I'm looking to an alternative to storebought cases, as though are quite pricey and I don't...
Vanamp, That thread you posted is kinda disturbing, makes me a little fearful of getting a mac now, but you said it doesn't happen often, and i hope you're right. I wish there was another solution to using OSX other than getting a mac. I know they look real nice, but i just feel like they're a...
I'm about to record my friend in NJ (i'm from NC). I'm either going by car or plane, haven't decided yet, but I really don't want to check my mics into baggage claim. Also, my car's air is kinda screwy, and i don't want to expose my mics to humidity, especially in the summer. I guess these...
