What is the best way to store your mics when not in use? I was looking for mic cases, like aluminum ones, but the best i could find are camera cases with diced foam for custom fitting.
I'm going to be using this computer for recording and graphic design...however, because i just got a full time job for a corporation doing graphic design, my computer will be used more for that. I'm not in the recording industry as a business, more like a hobby. I've used a number of pcs and...
very true, but i already have a good soundcard...i do enjoy the mac interface over windows, which is why i wanted to get one, but i guess my real question is how does mac ghz compare to pc ghz...if that question makes any sense...
I have $1700. Originally i was going to get an imac g4, the 1.25ghz 80g 512 ram model...however, while i was perusing at best buy today, i discovered i could get a sony vaio, pentium 4, 3ghz 512ram 60g for the same price. I know that i can't take the mac specs and pc specs at face value, but it...
thanks starch, tried that, but the piano gets lost in the mix when down the center and the guitar isn't thick enough if it isn't in stereo. The mix is with distroted guitar double tracked, aux guitar playing little riffs, 5 piece drum set, bass, and piano (actually, a korg keyboard DI'ed)
Are the Edirol MA-5A and MA-10D worth anything, or are they just basically glorified hi-fi speakers? I don't have a pair of monitors, up until now i've been mixing on digital reference headphones until i read an articel about how this is bad. I don't want to spend a lot of money on monitors...
Any ideas on how to mix these well? I've tried the panning technique, doing piano left, guitar right, and maybe i'm doing it wrong, but it just sounds off balanced when listening through headphones. So i tried adjusting the pan so its not hard left hard right, but still doesn't sound right...
Thanks Ethan, that is exactly what i was looking for. To be honest, i couldn't really tell a huge difference between any of them...i guess for the untrained ear, it doesn't make too much of a difference. I might just stick with 16bit 44khz for a while under i can muster up enough cash to get a...
I know this topic was discussed in this forum before, but couldn't find it again by searching.
Does anyone know where I can find downloads of recordings, one recorded in 16bit 44khz and one 24bit 96khz? I want to be able to compare the two, as i have read about the differences and whatnot, but...
I know that if you use the Quattro's 4 inputs simultaneously, you must sacrifice the quality, making it 16bit 44khz instead of the highest quality. My question is, if you use the quattro with a usb 2.0 interface instead of 1.0, can you keep the highest quality setting while using all 4 inputs...
Why is there such a big price range for these? How significant is the sound difference from the $13 to the $200 ones and is it something I should invest in?
Right now, i'm using a stocking stretched on a coat hanger...hasn't really given me any problems, but I'm wondering if my voice will sound...
Go with the 603s. I just got them and love them for guitar...may be a little too bright if your guitar is not dark enough, but haven't had this problem yet. I got them for 175 off 8thstreet. Just email them saying you talked down a salesperson at your local music store to that price and they'll...
I have a pretty boomy guitar, and a stereo pair of the 603s is doing wonders for it. Previously, I was using the B1 about 7in off the 12th fret...b/c i was in a bad room, i wanted to get as close as i could without catching too much boom, however, with the 603s, i don't really have that problem...
I've had no experience with this unit, but i'm planning on getting one...if anyone else knows anything about it, please let me know.

Here's me being stupid:
I bought the mxl603 stereo pack to record my acoustic guitar...sounds absolutely fabulous by the way when it is in stereo. I have a mixer with subouts, direct outs, etc. which i plug these two mics in, and then i plug the mixer into my computer's sound card...the problem...
very dumb question, but i wanna be as educated as possible...which is why i'm here...
what exactly is the POD? I mean, i've seen them used before, one was actually used on my band when we went into a studio for the first time, but never really grasped the concept. Is it something that is needed...
its a mono one. it was a "happy trying to DIY" gift from my girlfriend, a presonus comp16 compressor. However, i also have a soniusfx compressor plugin that came with Sonar, but i'm getting a mac soon, so I won't be able to use it anymore.
ahh, ok...so it's ok to put it outside, and it's ok to put it inside, but it is not ok to put it in front of the whole b/c the concentrated air rushing out of it will damage the mic...almost like a hose shooting water?...
if i dont' compress the acoustic guitar going in, it sounds too...twangy, but i guess you're right, i just need to work with mic placement.
while we're on the subject, what instruments do you recommend compressing going in? I have a compressor plugin, and i don't use any outboard effects (of...
