    The New Tone Thread

Thanks for this - you're having a much better time with attenuation than I did. I have a weber Micromass I think but it's not beefy enough for the big amps. It does sound very good within its depth, though. I really like the Attenuator at 6 normalized sound. The TV volume one seems like it...

    how is this drum sound?

Thanks again -- I'll check the kick - it could just be too many mics on my part, - inside, outside, and "sub" - the sub is an old car stereo speaker - it sounds pretty flubby.

    how is this drum sound?

Thanks again - I took a stab at re-tuning them, and I think they're better: http://www.otherdog.net/2015-06-07-drums-2.mp3 I think I have an issue with the mic on the smallest tom - I have to look into that. At the end I did the sweetest move - the stick actually left my hand and bounced...

    how is this drum sound?

Thanks - it's funny I had the toms tuned to my liking and I took them to a gig last weekend - a real drummer undertook to tune them for me :). I think he made them too high pitched.

    how is this drum sound?

I've been working on my drum setup, mic choice, placement, etc. I can't play myself, but I want the kit good to go in case a real drummer ever comes over -- it could happen some day: http://www.otherdog.net/2015-06-07-drums.mp3 This is dry with a little level tweaking - I forgot to hit the...

    The New Tone Thread

Minerman - that's very helpful - thanks - it's 'touching cloth'? (hah - it's only mine that sounds like something that would be touching cloth - yours sounds great). I think I'm gonna do a big reamped mic shootout here in the next couple of weeks, at volume.

    The New Tone Thread

I like both of those Minerman. The 80s reminds me of my 2204 with the pre-amp all the way up quite a bit - maybe a little fizzier on the top, or actually mine had that same sound before I pulled the bright cap. That's a nice amp you have. How did you place the e609? I have one of those and I...

    The New Tone Thread

I see - yes, sarcasm is tough to get through the packets. Reamping seems cool - and I have a reamping box that works pretty well. But it introduces more variables than just the amp - like the mic and placement and stuff. Also, with these big bottle amps, to me a lot of the fun is having the...

    The New Tone Thread

I mean for free - jeez - this thread is about research after all. I do see reamp services offered on the internet. I can't imagine anyone's buying but maybe they are.

I can hook you up with a reamp through my OR100

    The New Tone Thread

I have been primarily playing through an Orange OR100 for a couple of years now -- sounds great - has several very good sounds, actually. I think the OR15 has a similar circuit. Before that I spent a few days with a Tiny Terror - didn't like it much, and then about a year with a TH100 - that...

Another Drum Overhead Mic Thread (but not the usual type)

I like the C414B-ULS for this sort of thing. Usually just the right kind and amount of brightness. You kind of need to use the bass rolloff switch on them for OH. My experience isn't very broad, though. The only other one I have is the XLS. It seems a little brighter (and I only have one)...

    Shure SM81's for drum overheads.

I like SM81s - I never bought two as a pair, but I do have a few singles. They all sound close enough to each other (even when they're of dramatically different vintages) that I always feel comfortable to just grab any two for stereo recording. You might be able to save money by buying them...

could a single V30 handle a 2203 full in the face? (and by that I mean turned up the way we all want it to be)

yeah - another great pic - glad you got up there to represent Both clips sound great - I prefer the 1987, but that's cause I'm more used it probably.

I Wah Wah Wah Wah Wonder...

I went and looked at a video about the 535Q - wow - I suppose that's what I would go for if I were looking at this point. I know with mine, it doesn't work as well when I'm using my neck pickup as it does when I'm using my bridge pickup, but I bet the frequency shift of the 535Q would take care...

    Original - Look Ma

I like the second mix better. The 'is shredding still alive' part is pretty piercing, but the first one is fine to me. Now that I've posted, a wanker has arrived.

    Shure SM81, Josephson C42, Oktava MK012 - Overheads comparison

Thanks for this hollowmanpl - yeah, I would love to hear the acoustics. I'm crushing on some C42s and some other Josephson mics, but I don't have any.

    Microphone heaven

I got a pair of AT 4033s at a pawn shop a number of years ago, and I use them all the time -- mainly for overheads these days, but they're also great for acoustic guitar. I heard some people sing through them, but I never tried them for that. I also have a AT 4040 and a couple of 3035s that...
