    Talent Show

Hey Gang I need some help. You may remember that my daughter and her friend wrote a little song a month or so ago. Well, they have decided to sing that song at their talent show for their school. Since the quick and dirty song we did wasn't very good(production wise), I told her I would...

    My Studio Construction Thread

Looking good. Thats alot of panels there, I can imagine the pain they were. I bet it sounds great in there. I like your pedal board, a nice mix of very usable sounds. I esspecially like the greenbox sstone. Most of my early recordings (circa 1992) featured that and a greenbox muff.

    doubling up the kick?

I think the only doubling of a kick that's common is the New York style compressing of the kick OR a send to a channel with bass. Two copies of a kick for eq of volume is just a waster of CPU.

It will hold some, but not REALLY tight. Why are you wanting to stretch it tightly, is it short? The only other reason I could think would be to pull out the creases, and it'll do fine for that.

Thats what I would do, just use the 703 only w/o the cardboard. The snug fit will be perfect to keep them from going anywhere. The cavity behind it will help lower the dampening frequency. If it was me, I would stuff some pink insulation (w/o kraft paper) against the osb flooring from...

    Starting construction on new CR!

Still looking good. So.. whats the deal with your monitors? I can appreciate having more than one set to check mixes but you are covering your soffit mounted KRKs and it doesn't look like you could easily use them. Are you finding yourself liking the new set better?

    Retubing my TSL

I'd say if you are finicky about your tone then do it. It'll be a skill that you can use over and again to dial in you preferred tone, especially when you retube with different brand tubes.

I wouldnt use cardboard as that would reflect some. What is in the cavity about the dropped ceiling? Floor joists/cavity or is there insulation up there? Doesn't the 703 fit just right in the space? They are both (usually) 24"x48" and the 703 is sturdy enought to stay. Another idea would be...

    KRK RP5 with RP10s vs RP8 with RP10s?

I'm sure you'd be ok. The 5's aren't going to reach as low, but I'm sure you could get fine results with both setups. If I had to do over I'd prob stick with the 5's and sub vrs the 8's as they are HUGH and take up much more space.

    Recording drums with one mic

I do agree with that, but I'd still want a kick mic and snare. :)

    Recording drums with one mic

I agree to an extent, but we listen to the playback of the drumset on a stereo setup. We could argue all day long that a song is still a song in mono, but I'd pick a stereo setup any day of the week.

    Recording drums with one mic

The point is though, for a drum kit you must create the space. Unless the music created is being played back on a mono system, its going to be tough to get the drums to sound balanced with the rest of a stereo track. Its possible that he could get it sounding fairly balanced on its own, but I...

    parallel effects loops

Yea that can suck. Thats why you should treat your loop similar to a "send" on the mixing board for time based effects. Meaning have your effects set to 100% wet and use the main signal for your tone. I only like delay through the loop on my head. (100% wet) But, its too much of a hassle for...

    Recording drums with one mic

Actually you are wrong. You do have more than one set of "ears". Your brain is trained enough to help you hear things more legibly. Similar to how your eyes focus. Thats why people with hearing aids have such a hard time hearing in loud rooms etc. IMO, get a few more mics, they are cheap. I...
