As Fast as I Can - REMIX

That ending part is where I heard the higher notes. Is that that guitar track you mentioned earlier?

    Minimum Wage v2

I heard the clicks this morning after letting it rest. I'm pretty sure it's actually the bass. I am soooooo sick overnight, ugh, so I'll let it rest for today, soak in the suggestions and finish it off after I feel better. Damn, this came on out of nowhere. I tried re-amping the guitar but...

    Minimum Wage v2

You guys are hearing the 2nd vocal track panned slightly left. I'll center it and tuck it under a bit to blend them a little better. I originally had 1 track I did with a tube-mic, the Groove Tubes GT-66. I like it on my voice but it was a bit too clear for this song when I started mixing...

    Minimum Wage v2

Hey everyone. I'm posting my first song ever with me actually singing lead. I've gone about as far as I can with what I have to work with, so I'm just looking for tweak ideas.....because I am so ready to move on but don't want to wipe this off the board until it's finished. The drums are...

Slayer cover - Mix suggestions ......

Hell yeah! I feel like I'm back at L'Amours in Brooklyn or maybe Sundance in Bayshore! I was critiquing for about half a minute but then my head started going and never stopped. So.........bring on the vocals. Who gets to be Tom?

A mixing problem I may be blind to?

I'm feeling it. After reading all the other posts and listening myself, I think I can safely say I feel the rhythm guitars are a bit high in the mix. I've been dealing with/learning this exact same thing on my song. Other than that I might try actually drying up the verse vocals a little and...

    You Poured In

I'm out on the north fork in Southold. Launching a digi-label for some of the talent out here. My first final mix will be here tomorrow for sure. And then I have a bunch for other artists. I'm gonna be a fixture around here......... And.....I'll be at the Patch. Theater this weekend..........

Remixing my former band - alternative/post-rock

I like what you've done with the left guitar sound and I feel like it deserves more presence in the mix. The snare rolls in the change to quiet are so quiet they sound like vibration more than a roll to me. Have you tried riding the snare a bit in there just to see what it does?

Meet Me in The Dark - HARD ROCK ORIGINAL

Don't lengthen it! Just finish the lyrics. In this day and age of streaming and shortened attention spans, leave it short! You'll get more plays (and replays), have a better chance of others sharing, etc. You can always do the extended mix later as a bonus or something.

    You Poured In

I just took a break from my final mix and popped on here. Looks like you just posted this. I love it! ALL the tweaks you mentioned have added to the vibe. So........when are you pitching this to Tom Petty? It absolutely sounds like it needs to be on his SiriusXM station.

Meet Me in The Dark - HARD ROCK ORIGINAL

Just getting back to this after a couple days.....been finishing one of my own and obsessing. I dig the v7 remix. For me the ONLY thing that I still notice is the hi-hat. It's either a bit hot or distorted or something. The bridge section vox sound cooler. I like them where they sit. Is...

As Fast as I Can - REMIX

Cool. What are you using for reference material as far as mix? I hear heavy rockabilly ala Rev Horton Heat and I'd love to hear this with the guitars reverbed out in that style. More drums.

    You Poured In

I enjoyed it. Vocals sound fine to me. I agree the verses could be stripped down a bit as far as tracks on the vox. The rhythm guitars could use a little more grit I feel. Not much, just a touch. I felt like the OHs had a little room left. Maybe that would liven the snare up a bit?

Do you leave your gear set up all the time, or do you set up/tear down every session?

I converted what used to be a tool room and one of our old lobster coolers....yes, live lobster, into a 2 room project studio. Everything gets to stay set up. The control is about 10'6" X 13' with open rafters and the ceiling rocked up to the peak, while the live room is 13' X 16' with drums...

Meet Me in The Dark - HARD ROCK ORIGINAL

I like it. Takes me back to seeing White Zombie and Megadeth. If I'm gonna pick, I'll say I feel that hi-hat is a bit shrill.....just a bit. For me, the bridge vocals, the 'Pride' section, could use something a little more sinister sounding....? I was gonna say something about the bass when...

Where do I reach for the last compression I need.

https://soundcloud.com/dwayne-carlson-1/dwayne-carlson-minimum-wage-minimum-wage Here's the old mix when I tried out a local mastering company.......I've since decided to use someone around here...... The main vocals have been replaced by yours truly......which scares the shit out of me, but...

Where do I reach for the last compression I need.

Hmmmm. Well, I was thinking I'd compress the following as groups: Drums, backing vox (5/6 tracks), and either the rhythm guitars (3 tracks) OR the lead/fill guitars (4 tracks). The bass and lead vox will have their own dedicated compression. My available units for this are dbx163x, dbx166xl...

Where do I reach for the last compression I need.

Tomorrow is the day for mixing and I'm hoping to have something up for listening within 48hrs. Here's my 1 quandary without going into too many details. I don't use computers. Board and hardware fx for me. If I need to reach down and get a last channel or 2 of compression from my available...

Please help me understand the routing of the group section on my Topaz.....please

Thanks for the quick primer, Jay. I'll be putting it all to practice this evening. The circumstances on these mixes are a bit different. The drums are a 2-track stereo final mix. Nothing I can do about it, so I'm planning on EQing and using gold ole NYC(ompression) on them. I tried it out...

Please help me understand the routing of the group section on my Topaz.....please

I love the guitar solo application. I have a number of songs with 2 of us doing lead work, sometimes in tandem, and that technique would work wonders cleaning up the mix. Thanks. You'll be hearing that in a week or so........ A couple more questions if I may...... Re: drum reverb. Are you...
