    Arranger keyboard

Out of those two, you can control the Roland with an ipad? Sounds wise - they both have a decent selection and seem to sound OK - the Roland electric pianos I like better. The only snag with these products is that they're built to work with the home organ style customer. Select reggae, play a...

Acoustic Celtic harp... I've been trying to record the same song for two months!

I suppose the first question has to be what the harp sounds like sitting there, in the room? A sample of the problem would help no end, but all those mic techniques capture space - usually filled with multiple distinct sound sources. AB, close in is simply two mics - like people use on guitars...

    Can I Rockwool my coffin?

I think we need to hear an example. I can imagine the sound. The thing you've got is the fact foam only works on the top bit of the spectrum, and rockwool will indeed go lower - the question is where your voice energy actually is? a bass baritone needs more treatment than somebody with a much...

    Chinese now doing Telefunken copies

I sort of get some of the clones, but all the plus points that make a classic mic appear to be missing? Very odd?

I tried to treat my very small home studio; I’m now looking for advice to make it better as I think I’ve over done it.

I think your last comment is for most of us the only way. We do not have access to the software to do it properly by actual planning and predicting. I think most of us are reactive. We do the sensible stuff, then listen and fix what we don't like, and scrap things that don't need doing - and if...

I thought of getting one to see, but it's too much money. Interesting though. aliexpress mic

Cheat or not cheat? That might be the question

They can sing - not bad, but certainly NOT brilliantly. As I have repeatedly said - reviewers do not happen to need to be able to do what they review, just be able to critically comment. I can sing a bit. Enough to be paid. Oddly, we have numerous people ask for opinions. They always take...

    Can you ID this mic?

OK - now we are into the insults, because I do not hear what you do, that is it for me. You are totally closed minded. The city noises sound like the old backgrounds we played in from CDs for video and film. REAL intrusive noises that would wreck a distant mic recording. Where are the horns so...

Cheat or not cheat? That might be the question

My motivation is because I firmly agree with Wings of Pegasus's Fil. He is right more than wrong. I will say this again - You do not need to be able to do something to be competent in analysing, commenting and in some circumstance grading it. If your skill set enables accurate and analytical...

Cheat or not cheat? That might be the question

They can indeed sing. That is not in question. What I am apparently alone on, is their assessment. Good, not great. Competent, not Callas.

used discontinued, a Sterling Audio "Aspen Pittman" ST69 in 2025

I suppose the people there probably did not have the ability to test? I suppose the tube is the likely culprot but the cable and power supply might also be the problem? Do you have the same system as we have in the UK? We can just send anything mail order back for a refund. If it is faulty, they...

    Can you ID this mic?

Of course they do and they are also very good singers who have good ears. However if they had to sing to a track they would need speakers or IEMs and speakers colour the sound. I cannot help it if you don’t understand. I’m not going to attempt to convince you as we both differ so much. The...

Cheat or not cheat? That might be the question

No Rich - it IS a big deal when we talk about the tiniest features of recordings all the time - people with mixes they have worked on for ages, that when they put them up, they find somebody spots the fret buzz, the one poorly bent note, the mistimed snare all those things. We are all working on...

    Can you ID this mic?

She is a nicer sounding singer to me but that is irrelevant. I’m qualified to assess dance yet I cannot dance a step as I have poor coordination. I am not a great pianist but I am competent to judge them. She is like many untrained people. Singing by common sense and either has no singing...

Cheat or not cheat? That might be the question

As we've been talking about it in another topic, I found this youtube video talking about recording in garages. I note their aunt has been in touch. I think the evidence suggests very strongly this is NOT the acoustics of that garage space. Pretty objective, I think.

Earthworks PM40 and AEA R88 mk2 for piano.

The earthworks is a great system for live sound from a grand - so broadcast and live shows benefit from a decent sounding instrument. The snag is that you need to process it to make the perspective match. So it needs sympathetic reverb and control over the width. It is also quite dependent on...

    Can you ID this mic?

I said I wouldn't reply any more, but I lied. Exactly the same comments as before. Theyre good. Not great. She has also picked up bad habits a singing teacher should have counselled her out of. The vibrato is still uncontrolled, so she has probably left that too long and its embedded. He is the...

Bernstein, The greatest 5 min. in music education

Makes me feel a bit lacking how easy he does that - like Jacob Collier. The trouble with Bernstein's music is it's so damn hard. West Side Story - caused me to really sweat. Lose your place and you cannot get back in. Totally unpredictable. I have played bass in two productions over the years...

    Your nostalgic gear...

1996 was the turning point for me, ADATs and DAT changed everything. Still not perfect, but live sound that didn't hiss was the real thing - not actual record quality in many cases. The reel to reels were retired with a snap of the fingers.

    Can you ID this mic?

This is getting silly! The example of you singing in an untreated room sounds like what i expect the room sounds like. The kids in the car park magically have cathedral reverb on them but not the backing piano, and the acapella kitchen sounds like a kitchen. I am NOT saying they are bad singers...
