    Wealth ...

I like the lyrics and the song a lot. Sounds the makings for a good track. But, the drum pattern during the chorus ("Feeling really good now") was really distracting to me. It didn't fit, and also sucked a lot of energy out what should be the catchiest, most driving part of the song. I guess...

Zeke cover- first recording in a while

Just listened to the revised mix (didn't hear the earlier version). I agree with Bruthish - fantastic slabs of heavy 70s sludge (in a good way). The drums sound a little muffled (??) to me - like they need a bit more snap to them. I guess I'd try adding some compression to the snare track...

    When I Need You

That's really nice - I like the transition from the first part to the EBow electric guitar. My only mix complaint would be the horns - they sound "fake" to me. They need sharper attack to be credible "stabs". I'm not an expert at getting good MIDI horn sounds, but sometimes I layer multiple...

    "Fortunate Son" (CCR) interpretation

It's a neat idea to "chill out" the original - making it sadder rather than angry. I'm in the minority, but I'd actually think about ditching the electric guitars and drums altogether and find other ways to build momentum. That little high piano ostinato during the "loud" section is cool, for...

Wild Night demo. Tracked last night, Thown together this morning.

At least on my headphones, the bass is too boomy and dominated by low end. The playing has a nice groove, but the percussive aspects don't come through. I'd also drop the bass volume when the other instruments come in. Once the chorus hits, the song really takes off - the singing on the chorus...

    Worked It Out

That's a great song. I think I agree with DM60 starting with an acoustic verse and then having the electrics + drums come in would add some variety and build the arrangement. The mix sounds good to me. I like the drumming, but I might bring the toms (floor tom?) up a bit - it's pretty...

New Recording - Please review mix

Yes, the verse feels too throbby for my taste (is that a word...?). I wonder if the whole thing is just over-compressed or limited. But the song is neat... very nostalgic. Nice vocals.

First mix- Original song. Looking for some specific feedback.

Not too much to add, except to say that it's a really nice song and performance. Love the percussive guitar. That plus the story song reminds me of James Taylor. Concur that the shaker doesn't add much right now - a live shaker would probably be better.

    Original - Throwing Stones

Thanks much... Yeah, based on the first comment I added some low end to the bass, but probably went too far. Now it sounds a bit BLAT. It's also a short scale bass (Squier Mustang) so it tends to rumble.

    Original - Throwing Stones

Thanks for the input - very helpful. I've uploaded a new mix on: https://soundcloud.com/jm67dc/throwing-stones-v2 (the old mix is still there for comparison) Let me know if you think this is a step in the right direction. I changed the mix by: - changing the drum samples to a dryer...

    Original - Throwing Stones

Okay - thanks for the notes. I'll try to work on the low end and bring up the kick and bass.

    Original - Throwing Stones

Hello. I found an old piano riff from a few years ago, and worked it into a short song. It's got a 70's Todd Rundgren sort of groove. I'm wondering if the mix is a bit muddy though. I was having a hard time getting the piano and bass to mesh well without taking out so much low end that it...

    First EDM Tune--Thoughts?

I'm not an expert in EDM, but it sounds good to me. Good melody for the synths, and I like the arppegiated synth at the end - kicks it up a notch.

    Rocky Racoon - Beatles Cover

Well, for a first multi-track recording I'd say you've got a pretty good start! I like the energy of the acoustic guitar, and your voice sounds good. I agree that the vocals need to come up more in volume. The overall EQ seems okay to me. Some suggestions (not that I'm expert)... I listened...

new song mix . advice and comments please!

There are some nice elements here. For some reason it reminds me a little of Bob Dylan (Planet Waves era). I would probably cut some low end from the vocals. There are also pitch issues with the vocal, especially on the last word of lines ("... you know it by *heart*") - it would help to fix...

remix of one of my tunes

Nice song and good playing. Somehow it lacks a bit of energy - I think bringing the drums up would help. If it were me, I might also add a bit of extra percussion on the refrains (like 1/8th note tambourine starting at 0:34?) just to amp up the energy a little.

Nick Drake - Leaving me Behind.. my version

The song is lovely, and your version is expertly played. The guitar playing is exquisite. Well done! I'm a big Nick Drake fan and you've captured the feeling of his song, so that's the biggest hurdle. I concur with the above comment that the mix sounds a bit disjointed. I feel like I'm...

Piano Pop - Big Harmonies - 100% Sugar Coated

Out-damn-standing song. Reminds me of the best 60's/70's power pop - Badfinger, Beatles. And XTC. The harmonies are really well done - very precise in both timing and pitch. I like the radio effect well enough in the beginning, but there's some harshness right at the start that I'd EQ out...

    A couple songs

I listened to Someday. Sounds like a good first mix, and the song is nice. The rhythm guitar is too prominent, and a bit muddy. I wonder if an acoustic as the 2nd rhythm guitar would sound better, rather than two electrics. The vocals are good, but it sounds like the low end has been cut...
