    OK>>>TELL YOUR "BEST DEAL" STORY

I wonder what the chances are that your LP Goldtop is the one I sold to a guy in 1972 for $450? His friend bought a cream Tolex Bandmaster piggyback for $300 from the rythm guitarist in that old band of ours.Back then it was just extra gear taking up space; vintage was for wines...

    OK>>>TELL YOUR "BEST DEAL" STORY

In the last 3 months,I have been fortunate enough to find and purchase: a brand new Warwick FNA 5 string bass for $802 (list $1999),a new in box Roland VSR880 HD recorder (list $1795) for $599,and a used Bag End 15' bass guitar speaker cab for $199. 15 months ago I got a new Groove Tubes Soul-O...

    drum machines???

I've owned about 10 drum machines over the years,I currently have 3.They all represent some type of compromise compared to a real drum kit played by a human. The Question is which compromises can you live with if any?

When I record my Bass guitar it sounds like !?#!

The 1680 has a high impedance input tailored for use with guitars and basses. If you're using it you shouldn't need a DI,but you may wa nt one for different sonic options. Innumerable counrry recordings have been made using the Fender Precision and Jazz basses. An MIM P bass is like $299 new,and...

    Another bass guitar recording question.

If it's within your means, the ART Tube PAC works pretty well for bass; it's got a tube preamp and a tube compressor and if you set the levels well it can enhance the recorded bass sound.I got mine for $199 new at Mars.

    Mesa Dual and Triple Rectifiers

FYI it's false that you'll never find Mesa gear discounted: GC had 2 Buster bass combos for $949 (reg. $1299) and a Diesel 4x10 cab for $599 all last month. Why? Discontinued items.Mesa has a Store in Hollywood that sells used amps, the Phone # is on their site.

    POD Lovers...

RP200 I just got a Digitech RP200 for $130 and I think it sounds damn good.I mention this 'cause it's got a pedal on it so you don't have to spend any more money to use it live, unlike some other products...

Can I record 2 mics at the same time with the Presonus blue tube preamp?

Many types of tubes, including the ones in devices like the Blue Tube, are Pentodes,so you can use each "side" of the tube for something,as opposed to Triodes, where you can't.

    Foot Switches and Patterns

I'd have to dig into my manual to answer more specifically, but even if it isn't possible, you can always copy the patterns to the user pattern section in any order you want.

Multitimbre sound module for under $500..

For something a little different, there's the Korg N1R.I got one at the same time I got my JV1010 and I find that the two complement each other nicely. You'll probably have to look for it used since it's discontinued.

    POD or JStation

If a good price/performance ratio is a consideration for you,you might want to take a look at the Digitech RP200.It has a built in assignable pedal and about a dozen amp models plus a decent collection of FX.It can be had for $130-150.No MIDI,no S/PDIF.

    Effects

I would venture a conjecture that for the price you paid for the ART assuming you bought it new, there's probably a half dozen products on the market today that can better it.

    Hard-Drive failure?

Funny,I've always heard the opposite; that it's the computer based stuff that crashes a lot...oh.well.I've had my VS880EX for over 2 years now and it has frequently been running 12-14 hours straight and never had a glitch and never lost a note.

question on versatile drum machines for four track recording.

Try to find a Roland R-70 used. It's the type of machine you can use on many levels, from basic to quite advanced, and there are enough features on it to keep you learning and growing for a long time.I found one for $99.95,is that enough bang for buck for ya?

    Reliable Used Gear???

    The Houston Westheimer Guitar Center has a demo 890 for $1299 and a demo 880EX for $899. (713) 952 9070.

    Roland vs880

For the record if it's an 880EX it has to have the FX installed. They all came that way from the factory.I have one and have not had any problems but some say that the jog wheel starts toget flaky after a bunch of hours of use,so try to find out how many miles the thing has on it if it's used.

I wonder if Joe Satriani and Steve Vai would agree with that analysis.
