Got Psolo, and it captures Crap great.

Yeah, don't sell it. Every time you are buying something, selling it and replacing it, you are really running up the $$ you are spending. I agree that now you have a good tool to listen objectively to what's going on in the room. E-mail Ethan about the mobile home challenge. I bet he will...

Can I use sm57 for an Acoustic Guitar?

Well, it's a different sound than a SDC for sure, but I like an SM57 pointed at the 12th fret of my acoustic, about 6" out from the neck, as much as anything else I have tried. Try it and see for yourself.

    Which bass DI?

The Sansamp is as close as I have come to getting the perfect bass tone. I also use it with my tired Yorkville combo amp live and it does amazing things to the sound of my bass through that amp. bilco

    Need ADAT 101 Education

I am looking at their site right now. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Maxell had the least problems of all the brands. Has that been the experience of folks here or are they all about the same? If I am correct, it looks like the ADAT Blackface with original firmware was limited to...

    Need ADAT 101 Education

I am recording with PT LE into a Digi001 PCI card in a Mac G4. I have been wanting to record my band live, but after dragging the computer, monitor, etc. to one gig, I am trying to find a better solution. For some reason I was thinking that ADATs were still really expensive, but I discovered...

    SM 57 for vocals?

If you are working with a budget preamp, you may get better results with a cheap condenser, especially if your room is treated. If you get into a nicer preamp with enough gain to push a 57, I think it is great on vocals with a pop screen. I am running mine through an FMR Audio RNP and I like...

What is the best home recording book?

Print this out; it ought to be in a book somewhere: http://www.artistcollaboration.com/~tekker/Harvey%20Threads/HarveyThread.doc Read it and reread it and reread it............. bilco

Is there any behringer gear that is "good"?

This is the one piece of Bgear I have that I don't particularly like. One of the leads that connects to the battery came undone and had to be resoldered. The battery door does not fit well with a battery inside and I found it was easier just to leave the door off. Finally, it changes the tone...

Is there any behringer gear that is "good"?

Well, I'm back..... I don't have any ideas for new songs and I can't stand facing a blank piece of paper and going around my same chord patterns on the guitar..... I have recorded most of what I need to on the old ones. I guess I could retrack it all at 24bit instead of 16........nah! Man, I...

Is there any behringer gear that is "good"?

.....rats, I was going to go brew up some coffee and prepare a response to your next scathing reply.... I guess I should go record something eh? Maybe I'll even fire up the ADA8000!

Is there any behringer gear that is "good"?

Every post on this page other than yours is a success story to some extent using Behringer gear. No complaints, at least yet..... I know lots of folks here who use it and it seems to work okay. I don't hear about problems with it, (although I have to admit GC DID stop carrying most of their...

Is there any behringer gear that is "good"?

Then I guess I am "one of those idiots." So be it. It works for me and the only thing I have ever had break is a lead to the battery in a DI Box, which was easily fixed. The ADA8000 is 8 channels of the IMP Mic/Line preamp and it has ADAT out. It was the cheapest way to get more mic inputs...

    AKG D112 vs Shure Beta52...EQ

So, without using EQ, would the D112 be better suited for an acoustic singer/songwriter type sound with brushed snare drum? If you were going to record "Fire & Rain" again for JT, is the D112 the best fit? Thanks, bilco

    Recording (non-real) Drums??

My stuff is acoustic based singer/songwriter stuff so I'm not sure how this method will work for pop or rock. This is a big pain in the butt and I am still trying to perfect it; I am open to suggestions on how to make this process quicker. Get a CD that has both loops and individual hits for...

    RNP Vs. ART DPS II

It definitely emphasizes the mids on vocals, but in a very flattering way when used with Dynamic mics like an SM57 or SM57b. I own an RNP now and it is exactly what I need for my voice, I can't say for yours though. I won't be looking for any other preamp for vocals. I have not tracked an...

    Quitting

You are right! I did write something new the other day and threw down a basic 2 guitar, drums, bass and vocal demo in less than an hour. I didn't torque out about getting "the sound" on the acoustic or anything, I just did it. It turned out fine and I LOVE that I finally wrote something again...

    Quitting

I have and regret the stuff I let go. Stuff I've bought and sold: Dokorder 4-Track reel to reel (anyone remember THAT short lived company?) Fostex 4 Track JBL 4301 monitors bought in '79 with a BMI advance for a song that never got released. I sure wish I had those back again. I don't...

What sampling rate do you use?

44.1 and 16bit on all projects up to now, mostly to avoid having to deal with dithering, but after reading some threads like this one: http://recforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/mv/msg/4918/0/144/6837/ I am going to work with 24 bit 44.1 from now on to gain the headroom. The highest...
