    Appreciate some honest feedback

try soundclick then? i've got a couple songs on there that are 192kbps and haven't experienced any problems.

    removing pops & hisses

i've been meaning to get a pop filter... finally stopped by the local guitar center and picked one up for $20. rokket, that's a creative idea about the coat hanger and panty hose. i'll have to make my wife fetch me a pair next time if this one ever breaks down. :)

    The Siefer Vs. Cloneboy Mix

doh, well that's a bit high... although i don't have much experience mixing, i think i'm capable of making an educated decision on which one sounds better when placed side by side. :/

    Appreciate some honest feedback

concerning vocals... whoever's singing the verses on "star map" should be singing the lead on all the songs. not the dude on "hey jennifer". :( i believe you can post at least 128kbps on purevolume, no? why did you encode using 60?? re-encode and post again.

    The Siefer Vs. Cloneboy Mix

bah, i don't know how anal you wanna get about this, but you may also want to be wary of users who have less than 5 posts... anyone can create bogus accounts (as we've already witnessed) and vote over and over again. not sure on how you'd regulate this, though.

    This is How I Do

wolf1010, just my humble opinion but i feel you guys should simply go back and practice some more. i think you've got some interesting tunes (the "Hhh Hhh" one was a bit strange, though) so i'd go back and improve on them before trying to record new ones. vocals really sound like they need...

A band walk into your studio.....

handsome al, this is some good stuff--personal and intimate sounding. i hear a little blip at 2:37 just before the vocals come in. and 2:44, 2:47 where you hit the high notes it sounds like a bit of a stretch. i wonder if you could sparingly add some slight harmonies?

    removing pops & hisses

i'm using cakewalk guitar tracks 2 and i don't believe there's an option to redraw the waveform. but could this also be accomplished by adjusting the volume envelope? with my current situation, it's a "ch" sound that is overly harsh so i'm thinking i could just manually "compress" it?

    "Drift on"

hey, rdozz, sounds like a really good start, but on my headphones the vocals sound buried even though it's a pretty simple arrangement. try raising it a couple db? btw, is your friend playing the bass or cello?

    First timer...results

hey, grandmarkie, nice of you to post both pre/post-production versions. just a comment on the vocals--sounds a little flat when the singer holds out the lower notes at 1:20, 1:27, 4:39, 4:45, etc. also, that's interesting that you guys recorded them in the bathroom. :) i might be totally...

    Finished our third demo (rock)

the 1st song "new you" is great--it's got a stone temple/rage sound to it. i'm jealous.

First Mix in the New Studio

this was the first thing i noticed... i thought it was just a bad recording, but if you say they purposely wanted it in the mix then i have to wonder what it was that they were trying to add. at least the end has the "motor slowing down" sound whereas the beginning just sounds like low-level...

carter, thanks for the response. i'll look into the de-esser plugin.

    removing pops & hisses

sometimes i'll make a vox recording that sounds good to me but is marred by a slight pop or hiss (e.g. p's or ch's). i usually just go back and record that part again, but is there a standard method to removing them in the mix?

messin' with the kid (mix advice welcome!)

very nice stuff--how can anyone not like the blues? you've got the right voice for it and the guitar solos sounds great--they're neither sparse nor over-the-top. i agree with mixmkr about the ambience on the drums... sounds like a very small room.

    Comments on this track please?!

i'm not too knowledgeable about improving mixes so i'll just say that i think your song's pretty cool--funky time, jangly guitar riff... keeps me a little off centered. ok, maybe i will comment on the mix: perhaps bring up the vox a couple db more? and although i love the organ sound, it's a...

    I Understand

hey, jodyrae, don't take the comments on these boards too personally. you've got people from all backgrounds and tastes with varying degrees in how they critique music. one thing i've learned is to be glad someone responded. :D i don't agree with this at all... in fact, i think you're...

Something old im not to happy with "sawteeth"

hey, emser, aside from the fact that it's not as "clean" sounding compared to your other stuff (drums a little muddy, esp. at beginning), i think it's a nice slow groove. i'm not really into the "laser" sound at 1:12, 1:19, etc. the guitar riff in the background at 2:53, 3:01, etc. (the top...

    The worst song ever...

hey, silver_addict, here's my un-expert review... there's a lot of sibilance going on... try re-encoding the mp3 at a higher bit rate? i understand it's called "the alien song" and you may be going for that other-worldly sound, but this seems a bit drenched in effects. the drums are...

    a couple elliott smith covers

btw, here's an original i worked on about a year ago. a goofy 1-minute song with suspect harmonies and a gratuitous drum solo at the end. :D http://stang99.w1.com/zerp/mp3/zerp_i_know_its_not_the_end.mp3 i purposely made it short to concentrate on getting the song down (was just learning to...
