    couple of questions

Re: thanks man Your audiophile 24/96 is good enough. Since you are basically going line in to your soundcard, your sound will be affected by the quality of your sounds coming out of the s2000, any plug-ins used within the sequencer/muli-tracking program of your choice, your monitors and room...

    computer specs

I would probably spend extra and upgrade the HD to a 7200rpm drive and then add another 7200rpm drive. Two would be better. But if you keep only one hard drive then definetly spend the money and get a faster one. Vice

    couple of questions

I would suggest you try the demos out of some software and see what you like... calkwalk, cubase, n-track, pro-tools, etc. I know this probably isn't the answer your were looking for, but your question was rather open ended. The user interface and learning curve might be a deciding factor for...

    Hardware for Sonar

#1. I would go with the P4 instead of the celeron. I believe both will probably do fine, but the P4 will probably out perform. Plus, if you are going to upgrade the motherboard you choose with your P4 might make that a little easier. Make sure you get plenty of RAM... #2. I would suggest...

little Chinese ditty I call tu-ning

If you use the pitch wheel controller to adjust a "flat" midi section you will want to bring the pitch will up, not down... Pitch wheel will control the midi data. Pitch shift will control audio data. Good luck! Vice

Im gonna get kicked off the forum for this but...

How nice. I'm eagerly awaiting to hear your first recording. I just know that yours will be near perfect, lo fi or hi fi! It takes a little bit of courage to post your own music knowing the sound probably isn't "pro quality" to begin with and have complete strangers critique your material...

little Chinese ditty I call tu-ning

Sending Sysx messages can be a bit challenging. From what I can gather from your post it seemingly would be easier to enter the pitch adjustments in the event window using controller data. Depending on your equipment you might have to control pitch through RPN messages or through the...

    How hot is too hot?

I understand about why 24 bits is better than 16 bits, I'm talking about the stereo buss. Mixsit, I believe we are talking about the same thing, you made it sound better :) Vice

    How hot is too hot?

Let me see if I am understanding this... When dealing with the stereo buss, it's not concerned with how much your noise floor is, because at that point it is already incorporated into the signal. It's looking at the overall completed mix, right? I hope I am right or I might be totally...

    How hot is too hot?

Thanks everyone for your responses. What I have decided to do is try to work around the issues I think I have with the stereo buss. I have other questions, now. Currently, I am recording at 16bit/44k, will recording at 24bit/96k make a difference as far as the stereo buss is concerned? Will...

    How hot is too hot?

I will give it a shot tomorrow morning and let you all know how it goes. But, since I last posted I think I have already talked myself into keeping the mixer in the chain. The mixer allows me to hear all of my boards and drum machine at once. But, I can get something useable going straight...

    How hot is too hot?

Thanks everyone for replying. Mixsit, Blue Bear I am beginning to understand the concept of overloading the stereo buss. I think the scenario described in the article is what I am trying to describe. Blue Bear, after reading your article, I am wondering if in fact I actually need to be...

    How hot is too hot?

Thanks RichHead (Nice name, Dick!) :D I completely agree with you on the GIGO theory - garbage in garbage out I guess what I am asking is how hot do you record your tracks. I could push my tracks to right below 0dB, but that leaves very little wiggle room when I want to put effects or...

    How hot is too hot?

I am recording line level sources (keyboards, drum machines) and soft synths. I run everything into a mixer and from there into my soundcard. On the mixer I keep my transient peaks around +6dB and continous signals right below 0dB. (Why? Because I read that somewhere, I believe in my mixer's...
