Is this gonna be "the new and improved'' AT 4033?

I always saw the 4033 as a mic I want to own, but since its being replaced and Im in no position to buy one, what are the thoughts on the 3035? In terms of international mail order, I just ordered a Studio Projects B1... $79 US, so by the time I get it shipped to Australia it will probably set...

    Powering a stomp box

I've got a Boss SD1 Overdrive pedal that I use quite a lot. I generally run it on a 9V battery. My friend and I noticed yesterday that when the battery is running out, the sound it puts out is really appropriate for a song that we are about to record. I've got a variable supply hobby...

    Yelling into guitar pickups

I've got a crap mobile phone that sounds cool when I hold it over the pickups on my bass. produces this rythmic buzz and clicking sound. I'm still searching for a way to use it in a song...

looking for a good pair of headphones

I used to use a Pair of Senheiser HD433's, and they did the job, used to use them to track everything with. not being enclosed, they used to bleed slightly... i've got a pair of AKG 141M's, which are one of the most widely used headphones for studio tracking apparently... they sound great...

    Ordering from another country

I know theres a few aussies on this forum, and I was wondering if any of them had ordered anything from the states to be shipped here? If so, was there a decent turn around time, or did you have any other probs? the mics available there are for a start cheaper, and theres many that aren't...

Why do some CD-R's not work in some players

older CD players laser systems were a lot more fiddly... sometimes certain brands of CD wont play back in them because they don't reflect the laser well enough. I've found Kodak Golds wonts play in my Personal CD Player, but will on the computer, where as dark blue bottom CDs like the Verbatims...

    stereo microphone (camcorder) - *again*

Really depends on what the application is... If your shooting short films , you will be surprised how much you can do in post production. the last film I produced, the director and editor chose to do the entire soundscape in post, and just had the actors come back in and say the lines several...

is this even possible? It sure as hell better be...

The last two songs me and a friend recorded we added the drums at the end... basically because the drummer never showed up. we didn't use a click track for one, and let the guitar drift a little, and recorded just of the guitar. it sounded fine, but then again, its not super heavy drumming...

    Sub Woofer Questions

Apologies for my earlier post. I mustn't have explained what I meant. Yes, a true sub woofer should extend the frequency below what the woofer does, not boost it. however, the majority of people that buy subwoofers from my store are using them in a home theatre setup, and will essentially use...

    Recording a small band...

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I was thinking of extra tom mics, but Im pretty happy with the sound I get of the 4 mics. If I have extras, thats where they will go. The drums will probably be in a different room anyway, so bleed will hopefully not be too bad. I was thinking DI for the...

    Recording a small band...

Ok, I've got a situation here... I've been asked to work with a small band 4 peice band, 2 guitars, bass and drums, and I think I need a touch more equipment... Its probably a month off, so I may be able to buy a bit of gear in time, else I'll have to hire some stuff. I generally record myself...

    Phantom Mic Blower

Good thing I just read this thread. I recorded a voice over this morning, and just plugged the mics (dynamics) into the board without check the phantom power... this reminded me to check, and yes sir, it was still on. voiceover sounded fine though... Dr_Sbaitso

    tin foil and mouse balls.

Mobile phone. sit it on the pickup, and it produces a weird scream, but it beats in 4/4 time... looking for a way to use that. unplug your electric, grab a mic and mic up those strings. works well with subtle things, or nice little picky parts. (Stolen from Sigur Ros and probably a billion...

    minimal mic on drums

I once got a really nice sound using a single pair of Dynamic AKG D770's hung above the kit... but it depends on the room. is the drummer going to be on the playstage? I use NT3s as overheads, and they pick up an awful lot of info, and if your hard pressed, then just use them, and put the SM58...

why dont studio monitors ever have speaker covers/grills?

B&W speakers look fantastic without the grill on. dimpled, with bright yellow woven kevlar drivers, with solid plastic bullet shaped dustcaps, and metallic domed tweeters :)

    Mucho stuff lying around

Ive got this acoustic sitting by my feet. its dirty old, has a small hole in it, and the kicker, only four nylon strings. Its a pig, and I keep it around because I plan to smash it in a recording one day. when the right song comes along. for now, it sits on the floor, looking well hard...

    regretting NT3 purchase

the good thing about online shopping is its damn easy to shop for prices. the NT1000, which is another one I was looking at I found for what I thought a bargain at $AUD699, (vs a retail of close to a thousand I believe...) but searching harder, I found it for $AUD 549 at www.musiclab.net.au...
