    Drum store code question

Thanks for your help again - I'll try to see if anyone else with the TR626 has experienced this. I wonder if I'd recorded the tone on the 244 in the first place if it would have digitised ok? I'm not sure why I used another deck. The sync tone works fine. In the old days I installed a defeat...

    Drum store code question

Thanks jp. I've just tried the experiment of recording the drum store code restored on Roland directly from the original tape on the DP-32. When I play this back into the Roland it verifies and works ok. I've posted this file which seems to differ a bit. It seems there is something about the...

    Drum store code question

Thanks for the reply jp. I recorded the drum store tone on the Tascam DP-01 fx as WAV (16/44). I've posted a screenshot of a magnified part of the recording in Audacity. It looks doesn't look much like a square wave - maybe this is the problem?

    Drum store code question

I would like to apologise in advance if this is not the right place for this thread but you guys know the answer to most things so I thought I'd ask! I'm still working with old tapes recorded on my Tascam 244 in '89. I have about half a dozen songs on which track 1 has been used to record the...

    Tascam DP24 file import

Thanks - I'll ask on the DP-32 forum. PS Have just got a reply on the Tascam forum and found out I can do this using the effects 2 send.

    Hum with Sontronics STC-10

Hi Mickster. I double checked and just found out doing as you suggested that I get the hum without phantom power and with a dynamic mic connected. The hum goes when I connect my home made Earth lead. I can't seem to find an Earth connector on the back of the DP-32sd and no reference in the manual.

    Hum with Sontronics STC-10

I seem to have come up with some sort of fix for this. I wired up a 3 pin UK mains plug with just the Earth connector connected to a 1/4 inch jack. I removed the fuse for safety. When I plug this into the mains and plug the jack into the monitor out of the Tascam the hum disappears, so...

    Tascam DP24 file import

Thanks again -and thanks for the kind private message. I've bought a DP-32 and am thrilled with it. One heck of a learning curve though! I'm hoping to use my old Roland TR-626 drum machine with it. I used to use sync code with my old 4-track Tascam 244. Have you any idea is this will work with...

    Hum with Sontronics STC-10

I'm getting a fair bit of mains hum when I connect this mic to the Tascam DP32sd I've just bought. I don't get any hum when any of my other condenser or dynamic mics are connected to the DP32 and neither is there any hum when this mic is connected to my DP008EX. If I connect the stereo out jacks...

    Tascam DP24 file import

Hi PorterhouseMusic. I'm Just about to buy a DP32sd but just wonder if you could help on a few more things? I saw a post that suggested you have to stop playback to use the pan control. I need to be able to do this dynamically on mixdown! Also are the pan settings stored when you save the song?

Tascam Porta Two HS - Repair story and test recording

Thought it had to be dbx - it is so rich and clean. Yes I think I remember you need the extra device to sync 2 machines and it cost a fair amount. Would be quite a thing to make a 14-tracker cassette wouldn't it!

Tascam 244 used by major artist

I've just been listening to a BBC radio programme featuring P J Harvey. It followed her writing the soundtrack for a stage production of "All About Eve" in London. She revealed that she still uses a 244 to compose and record demos - that she doesn't like digital and prefers the character and...

Tascam Porta Two HS - Repair story and test recording

Great sound Beagle! Does the Porta Two have dbx? I'd love to hear any recordings you make on the 688 - is that the one you can sync up with another to make a 14-tracker?

Laptop that I can load up with XP

Thanks Steenamaroo, I guess I was lucky with the Toshibas as the HDD was in a caddy accessible under a flap held with a single screw. I tried the partition route once before but got stuck because Win7 doesn't allow you to install an earlier version. Not sure if Win10 is the same but probably...

Laptop that I can load up with XP

Thanks. I like to be able to replace the HDD easily, not only for when it fails but 'cos on a new laptop that comes loaded with, say win10, you have to erase this before loading XP and I wouldn't want to risk this under warranty - would rather put a new HDD in to start from scratch, loading XP...

    Tascam DP24 file import

Thanks again. Very well put. I'm going to buy one of these wonderful machines. I only wish I could afford the Model 24 - it looks terrific. And from what I understand you can even use it to control a DAW.

Laptop that I can load up with XP

Thanks Keith. It is the graphics chip directly soldered on to the laptop board. I just get a black screen on start up so it is impossible to get anything else going. I've taken them both to bits and got them running for a while after blowing hot air on the chip to make the solder re-flow but...

Laptop that I can load up with XP

Thanks Rob. Can you get to the hard drives easily? I worry a bit about used laptops having had 2 Toshibas die on me recently as a result of the video chips eventually getting too hot. It seems a lot of them fail this way and they usually can't be repaired.
