OK. So I'm going to buy a laptop for recording. I use Presonus firewire interfaces.
I know that if I was to buy a laptop with onboard firewire, I would want one with a TI chipset. But, what if I'm going to be using my firewire express card in the laptop? The card is a SIIG with a TI...
So do you want to record vocal tracks on top of karaoke tracks that are already on your computer? or do you have your backing tracks on cd's or something?
How many mics are you planning on using? Maybe just get some 50ft mic cables.

I'm not sure of the maximum length of firewire or USB, but I've seen some "boosters" somewhere that boost the signal to get longer distances.
