    Akai X-1810d...help

Yeah. I would never short out the fuse. I don't have any 2 amp 125v fuses on hand so I'm going to take the covers off tonight and give it a good once over.

    Akai X-1810d...help

First, I'll let you know that I'm a total analog noob. Now that that is out of the way... So my dad gave me his old Akai X-1810d. He told me that it keeps blowing fuses. I've looked for some schematics online, but I haven't been able to find any...at least not for under $20. I was wondering...

Best way to use my equiptment

Technically Firewire is a little better than USB because it doesn't rely on your computer's processor. USB does. But, for no more tracks than you'll be recording at one time, USB will be fine. Just make sure it's USB 2.0 or 3.0. I personally have always used firewire, but that's just me.

Best way to use my equiptment

Yep. That is definitely possible. You should be able to capture two mono signals. Just set up two mono tracks and set one input to L and the other input to R. You could also try one mic on the kick and one mic as an overhead. Just a thought.

Best way to use my equiptment

You could pick up a used Maudio Delta 44 or Delta 1010 for around $100. Then run 1/4" unbalanced cables from your channel insert jacks.

Are skull candy headphones good for mixing?

You can mix on headphones. It can be done. As a matter of fact, mixing on good headphones is probably better than mixing on monitors in a crappy, untreated room. I've read many articles in TapeOp and other mags about people who have mixed entire albums using cans. One guy used cans and a...

Looking for good starter book on mixing

+1 for The Mixing Engineers Handbook. I reference back to that book just about every time I mix. However, my mixes still suck, but I'm pretty sure that's not the books fault.:D

DANG IT, MAN!!!!!!:mad::mad: This thread had the potential to be great. Then you babies started arguing, then it appeared that you had grown up a little bit and started back with some meaningful conversation, then somewhere around page 11 it got all baby-fied again.:spank: Now I'm just...

    Building My Studio...Where to Start?

treatment, treatment, and more treatment. Your current gear is decent enough to get satisfactory recordings, but you have to be able to hear what you're recording and mixing. If you're going to be moving rooms while you're in school then you'll want to make everything portable. There are...

    Advice on recording set up?

+1 for Reaper instead of Audacity. What's your budget? If you're recording guitar and vocals at the same time, I would recommend a two channel USB interface like the Presonus Audiobox. And two LDC microphones (although you could get by with one).

    music computer

With the other specs being so low, any P4 with at least 1GB of RAM should suit you fine. And you could find you a used one for probably $100-$150.
