    a work in progress

I really like 'So Young', I think it's really well crafted and the production is charming. Have you thought about putting some ambient sounds in the mix?

Is my vocal in the right part of the EQ spectrum?

I like #1 the most. The other ones sound kind of rough/over driven in certain parts of the EQ spectrum.

    I hate reverb.

I personally love using reverb in certain ways... One great way to get a natural reverb is to use 2 mics at different distances away from an amp. Place the amp at the bottom of the stairs and a '57 close to the speaker while you have a large tube condenser at the top of the stairs. This creates...

Who Is Better Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page

Hendrix... Hands down, he pretty much has his own genre. As a composer some consider him in the same league as beethoven and mozart: http://guerillaproducer.com/?p=96

    The Killers: Mr. Brightside

Mr. Brightside is a great song and it has been mixed for commercial radio, so the compression will be way higher than other genres. I know that big acts get a rock mix, a pop mix, an alternative mix etc. totaling at around 3-5 mixes so that they can spin the track on different radio stations...

What is the cheapest way to record in your opinion

I agree, find a novice recordist, pay him 5 or 10 dollars an hour and do it with him. Or find a recording student and maybe they'll do it for free for student credit. Recording is an expensive mistress (even when she is at her cheapest). I like Apple's Garageband for cheap recordings (free with...

Pro Tools Logic Is The Best!

I'm a Logic man personally because I can use whatever hardware I want, and also because Logic comes with so many plug ins and instruments. Pro Tools is very nice however, and besides the high cost, I don't really see any problems with it.

Advice needed for Songwriter looking for a publishing deal with a caveat..

I would post them for publicity, then if someone steals them, sue them - for more publicity! lol, idk, it's a hard choice. I like to have my songs heard so I post them, but that's just me.

    Mastering??

I usually leave the mastering to the pros. It's very arcane to me and I'd rather mix than master ;)

Do You Like (Or Hate) Your Voice?

Have you ever considered vocal training? I'm in the same boat, started out with NO technique and I have since worked with 2 vocal coaches. For myself, I was using the wrong parts of my voice and the wrong ranges. Things have got more comfortable and I'm starting to write for my voice (which is a...
