    Compressing lead guitar

I'm working on an instrumental song in which my lead guitar plays the melody/impovises throughout. The first part is quite a clean sounding lead but the second has more gain/overdrive. As you'd expect, after I laid down the lead tracks they sounded very 'live' in terms of the dynamics. In...

    Good(preferably free) spectrum analyzer recommendations

Can't believe I missed it but I just downloaded the span Real-time spectrum analyzer from the Voxengo site. Thanks again. :)

    Good(preferably free) spectrum analyzer recommendations

Cool - I get plugins from both those sites and haven't seen a spectrum analyzer, but I'll go take another look. :)

    String Safety

Yep - it's one of my pet hates as a guitarist. I've known people who think it looks cool to have the strings hanging from the headstock. IMO it's dangerous and looks pretty stupid.

    Good(preferably free) spectrum analyzer recommendations

I record via Cubase SL3 and as far as I can see, it doesn't have a spectrum analyzer. I just want something that will display the frequencies for both individual tracks and even more so an overall mix. Does anybody know of any good free ones I can download? What do you guys use? :)

    No effects before mixing process?

After reading this thread over again, I think I may have misled you guys with my question. Recording WITH effects ALREADY on the track(either just for monitoring purposes or to keep it on there) is not an option for me with my setup, as I have Cubase SL3(SX allows you to I think). So this...

    No effects before mixing process?

Whenever I've recorded in the past, after doing every individual track I have usually put some effects onto them - mostly reverb on vocals/guitars. Do you guys think it is BETTER to just leave out ALL sending/inserting effects until after all the parts are recorded? I know there may be a bunch...

    Studio Projects C1

I'm waiting for my C1 to be delivered, and I will be recording female vox and acoustic guitar with it. I spent a couple of weeks researching all the mics in it's price range and one review tipped the balance in it's favour. It was from a guy that had recorded a female vocalist that had a...

    Recording guitar Multi-effects

Yeah, I think you're probably right but at the very least I think I might use it to record ideas after my son(he's 2) has gone to bed etc. Usually I totally stop any recording after 8pm.

    Recording guitar Multi-effects

I'm plugging the Korg into the instrument input on my DMP3 preamp. Like I said, 95% of the time I would definetely mic my amp up but some of the speaker sims(4x12 classic, 4x12 vintage etc etc) sound good too so that's why I wanted to experiment with them. I have read articles and stuff on...

    Recording guitar Multi-effects

This is my first post, so hi everyone :) I have just recently got a brand new setup(I record with my PC DAW) so at present I am experimenting with micing techniques etc etc. I have a Korg AX1500g multi-effects unit so yesterday I tried recording it directly into my Audiophile 192, via my...
