Choosing a desktop PC for audio production.

Option A. Sink the remaining money into room treatment, or audio gear. A 3GHz i5 is totly suitable for a basic gaming rig, and you're right when you make the observation that a audio rig doesn't need much in the way of display power.

$7,000 Budget for home recording studio...help!

I'm not telling you this is what you should get, this is just me pretending what I'd buy if I had $7K to burn through and your requirements. Midas VeniceF-16 mixer/control surface - 8 mono channels with pres, 8 stereo channels with pres, line-in/inserts on all mono channels. Via Firewire to...

    Why do manufacturers hate us?

Okay, but correct me if I'm wrong. If I were to strip away all of the keys, and knobs, sliders, dials, software, interfaces, and LED displays and get down to the most basic functionality I'd find either a sampler, synthesizer, or both... and note that when I use the word 'synthesizer' I'm...

Shure PG48 and Behringer BCA 2000

I personally have not used Audacity and cannot help but the software that I'm familiar with has to be associated, via menu options in the software, with the attached soundcard. When you plug the USB cable connected to the soundcard into your computer you should see a dialog box pop up announcing...

Synthesizer keyboards vs. Arranger Keyboards vs. Controller Keyboards... sheesh.

what's more important: processor speed or cache?

I'm a retired IT guy. Cache is used in applications as a 'read-ahead' buffer. Predictive programming fills the cache with what the computer thinks will be the next bit of data that it's going to need to save time from accessing the hard drive. The larger the cache the more chance the predictive...

New Computer for recording, need some help please

Cubase requires a 2 GHz CPU on a Windows PC with at least 1GB (1024 MB) of RAM (random access memory) although the more the better. It needs 4 GB hard drive storage and once again the more the better. And of course a DVD-ROM. So essentially any PC on the market today will most likely be okay...

    Interfaces

I personally haven't done it but you can connect Firewire devices to Thunderbolt ports using an adapter which may be a less problematic approach then connecting to your PC's Firewire port. Certainly it gives you a great option should the Firewire to Firewire connectivity cause you grief.

    Interfaces

USB2 works, USB3 is faster then Firewire. I'd expect USB3 interfaces this year. Firewire is extremely problematic on the PC side. I'd recommend USB2 interfaces unless you really need some kickass throughput, in which case I'd get a PC with a Thunderbolt interface (Thunderbolt to Firewire...

    64 Bit Reso??

Why? The only reason there's 24bit/192KHz sampling rate was to sell more gear.
