    mic comparisson

heh, just read the last post more carefully. I would say the b1 is better at bad rooms, although that's just an untrained opinion.

    mic comparisson

old thread but what the hell, i got my karma k35 and haven't plugged i the b1 since. I feel like I've got a "real" condesor now. I could use words like open, detailed, tight etc...Idon't know if that's it, but it just sounds a lot better to me, espcially the bottom end. The last thing I used...

    Ribbon mic's

Just to add, I've read this and found it to be true. You don't get that riveting crunchy bite that a 57 will give you, which is why I read a lot about people using a ribbon with another mic on a guitar cab. Something I'm going to start playing around with now that the initial thrill of getting...

    Ribbon mic's

Well this probably won't help much Apex 210 plugged straight into my converter, no pre. Luckily my converter is pretty quiet so I get enough signal, probably not enough for you pros, but enough. I use it to mic my 50w combio, so there is lots of power at the source. Mic postiion is a bit of...

    cheap ribbon mic

hmmmmm.... I've got an Apex 210, it's not bad. Just being a ribbon totally rocks. I use it to mic my Marshall, especially when there isn't going to be a wall of doubled overdubs. IMO it's not a "great" mic, I'd like to have something better

    Solved Great River ME-1NV

no experience yet, but I've pretty mch decided it's my next pre as well. THere's a thread somewhere comparing it to an API where a few people make a good case for the API.

    Graphic EQ: A Joke?

most digital filters are based on the same principals as analogue ones, but there is a kind of filtering you can only do in digital (FIR) that has really good quality in some respects, I can't remember what tho... It could be what you are hearing is that the graphic eq used a loeer res fft...

What's the best distortion pedal out there?

Truth be told that's a fair assesment. I've been married to this pedal since I was 16, it's the only pedal I can stand for more than half an hour. If it's really the only source of drive in the chain you have to find the balance between not feeding in too much gain and get the tone control...

What's the best distortion pedal out there?

The overdrive pedals can sound better at first, but can sound kind of dull. The drive pedals give you a bit more "expression" in my opinion in the long riun, but are a lot harsher and sometimes seem completely useless, especially with a bad amp combination. Solution, unfortunately, grab a...

If you had $2000 to spend.

you could pick up a couple of sound treatment units that just just in the corner or come on a stand. Bucks to bucks this would likely make the biggest difference in your recordings. I run my mic's straight into my lavry and normalize in software. Not for everybody or every situation but talk...

    64-bit mix engine?

Ya, that sounds right, so the crunching is more or less the same o floats. I'd guess there's some wider plumbing somewhere that helps a bit.

    Digital connection question:

ya, it's a one or the other thing. I think spdif is better than optical because I don't hear a lt about optical audio connections, but I don't really know.

    64-bit mix engine?

64 bit cpus should, if the app supports the proper instructions, calculate 64 bit floats faster than 32 bit cpus. It's a register thing I think. A 32 bit cpu has to juggle crap around internally to process a 64 bit number, a 64 bit cpu should be able to just stuff it somewhere and process it...

    64-bit mix engine?

Well, sort of if you're mixing more than 3.402823466 e38 tracks together. IN the real world 64 bit floats will be more resilient to rounding errors. Floats are all about precision, not limits. Large numbers are described by larger units, smaller numbers by smaller units, as apposed to fixed...

Nice tube combo amps under $500?

Sounds lke you want an old Fender or Marshall, hard to come by for under 500. Tube amps probably don't have less noise than SS to my knowledge.
