Please Review this tune, "Tara's Rain"

I'd echo what White Strat said. The performances are great. It does sound pretty harsh on my monitors. Almost like there's a big 2k bump on the guitars and some kind of high end bump on the kit. Maybe just revisit how the whole thing is eq'd. Tame the high end on the kit and this could...

The Jeffersons - my tribute to Sherman Hemsley - RIP

I wasn't aware that Sherman had passed away. I certainly spent many hours watching "All in the Family" and later the Jeffersons spin off. A very fitting tribute. Nicely executed. As always I bow to your mixing expertise. Sounds great to me. I too love the bass sound.

A Child to Call Our Own - another new song that needs your feedback!

This is very nicely done. I'm torn between the simplicity of it as it stands and feeling like it could use a pad in places or some simple percussion. Simply a matter of taste. As is stands now, it's very good.

    Acoustic recording

    Nicely done.

    Is this mix any good?

Thanks Ray. I'm no expert at mixing country music (or any music for that matter) either. Just trying to improve as a mixer.

    Is this mix any good?

Yeah, I agree about the guys voice. A little annoying. Thanks for the feedback.

New song for review DOWN BY THE RIVER

Sounds like you did a nice job recording everything. Very clear, low noise. Only one thing about the mix sounds a little weird to me and that's the snare. The whole kit sounds pretty up front and dry, but it sounds like the snare has it's own reverb with a really long pre-delay that makes it...

    Is this mix any good?

Mixoff.org under country section. Favourite by Tania Nederway. If that link is dead, I don't know where you could find them.

    A Better Man

It seems like the instruments and vocals are struggling to keep up with the drum tracks. There's some timing issues that need to be cleared up. The kick is thin and papery sounding. The snare is pretty dull and lifeless. Not sure what drum program you are using, but it could also use some...

    Is this mix any good?

Yes, the third mix is the one I attempted to bring the vocals more forward. Thanks for the feedback.

    Mixing tips?

Yeah, pretty good mix. The kick is very clicky. I honestly don't know if that's typical for this kind of genre, but if that's what you were aiming for, you nailed it.

    Is this mix any good?

Thanks for taking the time to help out. Lots of good feedback helped the mix. Sometimes with mixing you eventually lose all objectivity, and it really helps to have fresh ears. The needle was barely moving on the 2-buss comp. Less than 2dB compression. Yes, the b'u vox have a LPF, because I...

    Is this mix any good?

Thank you. You both were right. I liked the kick in the first one better too. So I went back to that kick, fixed the toms (thanks for pointing that out, they were terrible), made the snare a bit brighter and louder, and brought the lead vox out front more. Newest mix posted up top- final...

    Is this mix any good?

Thanks for listening. New mix posted. More kick, more snare, less hats and cymbals, a little reverb touching the entire mix.

Don't Let the Hard Times Rule You - please critique my mix!

Fantastic! I live in Salem. I'll make every effort to make it.

    Is this mix any good?

Thanks for listening. My first mix of this was way too harsh/bright. I'm in anti-brightness mode right now. What in particular is it that sounds too dull or needs to brighten up?

    Mixing/Mastering Impressions

The song is a good one. I like the performance. My impressions: The reverb room is too large and too heavy for this performance IMO. That is unless you want it to sound like it's being played in a big empty warehouse. Seems to me this would do better with a more ambient reverb giving it a...

Don't Let the Hard Times Rule You - please critique my mix!

Very nicely done. Great performances, recordings very clear, mixed to perfection. I would keep the low end of the guitar. I think the song needs it. My only question is when are you doing a show down Portland way, so I can come hear your guys?

New Singer, I need constructive tips and suggestions... besides stop singing hahaha

If you have an autotune program, you can sing the song, autotune it, then play that back in your head phones while you sing it again. Try to stay on pitch with what's in your ear. You might have to do the second recording with the headphone only covering one ear.

Apocalyptic Fairy Tale Music - hoping for some feedback.

The second mix is way better IMO. The vocals are way less harsh. The panning helps widen things too. If your compression on vocals is causing too much sibilance you can cut some 7-8 K with an eq pre compressor, and add some back in after the compressor has hit it. Or some compressors have a...
