Dooom Dooomm...How do you get that tom sound?

I did exactly that, except I left one lug looser than the others on the top head, per John Sayers' website. The top and bottom heads on all toms were previously tuned the same, which is why the toms were lifeless IMO. I got vastly better results this time around. I will try to tune all lugs...

Dooom Dooomm...How do you get that tom sound?

I think the room's ok and this kit has been recorded at a pro studio and the toms were awesome there. "Dooomm Dooomm." You know, that pitch drop during the decay. I was on John Sayers' website and it said that tuning was where this would come from. So I'll try it. One of the techniques was to...

Dooom Dooomm...How do you get that tom sound?

I'm pretty happy with my drum mixes given my experience and equipment. Snare, kick, hats, cymbals all sound pretty good. But I'd like a little more ring in the toms. Is this eq? Compression? Multi-band compression? Drum tuning? Effects on tracking?

Is it a floor wax or a dessert topping or both? Mic Pre/DI question.

Fletcher, That's me (Chuck) on your voicemail this past Saturday morning. We can debate Grady when you call back ;) Seriously, thanks for your reply. Hopefully we'll talk soon. I think I'm making pretty good recordings with my gear and my experience (which is admittedly modest and probably my...

    best pre under $2000

I read the review and it goes toward answering the question in a thread I started "Is it a floor wax or dessert topping..." where I pose the question of a pre versatile enough to double as a DI for bass or acoustic guitar. "My observation shows the MP-2 strongest applications are vocals, bass...

It's a pretty simple question is it not?.........

Is it a floor wax or a dessert topping or both? Mic Pre/DI question.

A good defined bass sound is a priority of mine and I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Demeter tube DI box. I'm also in the market for a good mic pre for vocals, maybe acoustic guitar. Should I spring for the Demeter and a grand-per-channel pre (suggestions on that please) or is...

And if the info in the folder exceeds 700mb, big deal. Put the remaining files on a second CD. Reconstruct the folder if you want to go back to it. Also, you should be using a second hard drive for audio data anyway, but not for archiving. They have a shelf life. And if they crash, how many...

Two Delta 1010's in one PC....

FWIW guys, with respect to Cakewalk/Sonar and Windows, I've had an easier time with 2000Pro than 98SE (many, many blue screens of death). However my horrific registry crash occurred under 2000, but I blame the ABIT board with RAID controller. So far, XP has been trouble free (knock on...

Two Delta 1010's in one PC....

This was a piece of cake! Phone tech support at M-Audio was very helpful. There are a couple of settings in the software mixer I needed to change and connect the two PCI cards with a coax RCA SPDIF cable. Two 1010's under XP with the .27 driver from the M-Audio website. I didn't need to...

    delta 1010 headphone monitoring

Are you using a mixer? How are you monitoring? If you're using a mixer, run your out 1-2 from the soundcard into any two channels on the mixer. Take your main outs or tape outs and send them to your monitors. Headphone outs or aux out to your headphone amp or plug in directly.
