    VS-1680 to Pro Tools

As I said, I've seen this on VS-Planet. It may involve removing the VS hard drive, but I know I've read about success there. If you can do the ADAT thing, I know Pro-Tools has an ADAT bridge, especially in the pro studios. Dump 8 tracks at a time. Synch it this way: At the end or beginning of...

    VS-1680 to Pro Tools

I've done this in a low-tech but very effective way. Two tracks at a time with a VS-880 to Pro-Tools and to Sonar. I assume the 1680 has no ADAT/Lightpipe connection. That would help,I guess. www.vsplanet.com has a lot of this kind of help. If you don't have any luck, I'll explain my two-track...

Sonar crashes when I do this...

If I edit nodes in fader automation by dragging them with the mouse, add nodes, etc. and do this too many times between saves, Sonar crashes. Windoze stays up, but I lose my changes. I suspect it's ram. I think I have 256k.

    Sennhieser 421 mic holder

I broke down and paid $35 for one at Guitar Center. What the heck, I got the mic for free. Anyway, GC had to special order it and Sennheiser had messed up the order, which I found out when the store called me in. At this point I had waited a couple of weeks and found myself in the store looking...

Delta 1010, Lynxtwo, anyone interested? Also RNP, RNC, EQ

I'm interested in both the RNC and RNP. Your PM's are full, so PM me if you still have them.

    Sonar 4

I called Cakewalk sales support and asked if they support Studiomix in Sonar 4. They said yes, but referred to the control surface tab. But Studiomix is not a generic control surface. In Sonar 2.2 it is in the Views pulldown and has its own utility. Much better than a generic control surface...

Dooom Dooomm...How do you get that tom sound?

Well, here we are a couple of months later.... First off, new heads. I bought Remo pinstripes for the rack and floor toms. Tuned the reso heads without the batter heads on. We stretched the new heads and tuned them a step and a half lower than the reso. Most important - Moved the drums out...

    Delta 1010 with N-track

Save your money on ram. I have half a gig and am running two 1010's with Sonar on a 2.4 ghz system. I often record 16 tracks at a time at 24 bit with no problem onto a 7200 rpm internal HD. And yes, soundwise a 1010 vs a Soundblaster is night and day.

Should I cut out the Mackie?

What's the point of a DAW if you're not going to mix inside it? Automation, plug-ins, etc make it too tempting. I suppose you could still automate your individual tracks and put plugins on same then route from your converters to the mixer. I could do this too, but I'd need to reroute everything...

    Mackie, Soundcraft, or Other

Ditto. Got mine used a year ago for $1600 with meter bridge. Had ribbon cable probs too. It was under warranty and Mackie paid for everything. Tracking, monitoring and number of channels is a no-brainer. 32 direct outs give me a great deal of control...And talk about 'wow' factor with people...

Dooom Dooomm...How do you get that tom sound?

I'm wondering if I'd have better luck with the drums in a different room than the mixer. I'm not really able to monitor them to hear what's coming thru the board. Should I eq the input signal? If so, any rules of thumb frequency-wise? Compression?

    Hey moskus...

Not after your recent activity in the Boobies thread. No. There is nobody cooler than you my friend. Thank you. :D

    Sennheiser MD 421 for kick

I have one and I use it on floor tom most of the time and a Beta-52 on kick. I have also used it for trumpet. Really good there. Trumpet's SPL must be considerable so I'm afraid to use a condenser and the 421 really gets it. I have never used it on a kick as I'm happy with what I get from the...

Two worse mics or one better mic?

Mics are going into my old Mackie board (1402 and a 1202), out the inserts into a Delta 1010 at 24bit, then into Sonar. My new Mackie (32x8 Buss)has direct outs so I get to play with eq and levels, but these recordings are thru the old board.

Two worse mics or one better mic?

Been there. Done that. While I admit that I don't have any high end mics, these will give you much versatility and I could hear the difference immediately from what I was using previously. I use the 603's on drum overheads and acoustic guitar. The V67 on vocals, sax and hihat. This is money well...

Any cakewalk user with controler surface?

Yeah, Moskus. What I did not realize was that there is a utility exclusively for Studiomix in Sonar 2.2 under View/Studiomix that is pretty comprehensive. Bank switching is a breeze as is assignment of buttons. I have set the five buttons on the right of the Main fader to "Shift to the Right 1...

Any cakewalk user with controler surface?

Well I got the manual with it and I also downloaded the pdf file (same thing). Here I am just before midnight with a few questions though.Jog/shuttle wheels are great as are the transport controls. I can move the faders on the Studiomix which makes the faders in Sonar move, but I cant seem to be...

Any cakewalk user with controler surface?

I got my Studiomix. It was delivered to my work, so here I sit. Unable to use it. Watching it as it mocks me

    Playing/Recording someone else's tune

Mike, Thanks for the listen. This is by no means a final mix as this was a live take, but I do like the tones on drums and bass and we're playing fairly tightly, so I'll probably keep those. The singer accompanies himself on guitar, so for the sake of a guide, we set him up in a different room...

    Playing/Recording someone else's tune

Here's the first song in a collection I'm engineering and playing bass on. It's called "Let's Go" http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1400&alid=-1 The other tunes on this page have been up for a while. Please just comment on "Let's Go" Thanks
