It's amazing how many different recommendations these threads seem to entice. Bottom line is get what you think you need. Most of these mid to high level pres are very good. I think people tend to recommend what they have anyway. I'm sure there are a few who have tried alot of different pres but...
I've done a few of these and I got most of my info from digitaldrummer.net . What are you having a problem with? He has very good pics of where to connect the wires for the DI and the phase switch is a simple switch that reverses the wires. I used a DPDT switch and two jumper wires, works great.
For your budget I would also recomend ADK AP-1. I picked up both of mine on ebay for less than $400 each. And you don't necessarily have to buy other opamps or transformers. The stock Cinemag and ADK opamp sound pretty good to me. Don't know why more people don't like these pre's. They stand up...
I've been the M-audio and then Motu route. M-audio was reliable but I wanted a step up so I went with Motu. Motu had lots of driver and compatability issues with my system. Now I use an RME Multi-face II and it's rock solid and sounds wonderful. Do yourself a favor and go with an RME product.
Reading this thread once again I realize how much I like my ADA8000. Not that it's that great of a unit, but it does what I need it to and not much else even near it's price-range for what you get. I'd seriously consider trying one if I were you. Mine works great and the converters aren't all...
ADK Vienna or Hamburg. I picked my Vienna up used off ebay for under $200. Soooo much better than my SP B1 and my Cad M177's. No comparison. Sounds stellar on vocals and acoustic guitar.
In your situation, go with a 57 or 58. They are much better than the PG mics. Condenser would be ok, but like the others said, you need a very quiet environment to use it in, so the 58 would be more versatile for you and a step up from the PG.
I recieved my mics today and just got finished trying them out for about an hour. Only tried them as a stereo pair recording some acoustic guitar. I usually use my ADK Vienna and a SP b1 in stereo when I track my acoustic. My initial impressions of the Cad's is that they are very very neutral...
Ok, don't mind selling these separately I guess. PM me if you're interested. Would like to keep them in pairs at least.
$36 for the pair of cardiod's or $70 for all 4

4 - MSH-1K cardiod condendsers
2 - MSH-1 omnidirectional condensers
I bought these just a few months ago to mic my drumkit. Really only ended up using the MSH-1's for overheads and using an sm57 and a shure kick mic anyway. So they didn't get used very much and now I'm finally upgrading my...
I've been using Samplitude 9 for a few months now. Switched over from Cubase. I'm not going to argue about it sounding any better because I don't know all the technical details but I can say that to my ears it does sound different. I'm very pleased with what I hear. Plus the plug-ins that come...
Another thumbs up here for redco.com . I built a patchbay a few weeks ago. The shipping was lightning fast (I'm talking next day) and they did ship me rca's instead of 1/4" jacks like I ordered. I emailed them at 4pm and the 1/4" jacks were at my door the next morning. Great customer service...
