Best Studio Mic for Children (unskilled)

Harvey, Is this because the mic is so close to the table that the table is contibuting to the "boundry" effect or something similar?

Something you might not know about condenser microphone capsules

How about those foam filters that hide the grille? Seems to me constant use of a foam filter would help keep the capsule clean if not somewhat drier from airborn dust and humidity. I could be wrong and if so, I would like to know why.

Best Studio Mic for Children (unskilled)

ouch, that's gotta hurt! I've read the other's responses and the only thing I can come up with is grab some rope and tie 'em down. But that's me and I probably wouldn't be called back for more business. Visions of kiddie-chasin' boom-mic handlers all tangled up in cable come to mind. I don't...

    removing 'picking' sound.

That's string noise. This is noise you hear when you drag your finger along the wound strings when changing frets. Solution: pick up your fingers and stop draggin them. Of course that doesn't work in all cases. My friend is one such case. He's fallen for the John Pearse 80/20 strings for his...

"Song Demos" With Just One Vocal, One Instrument: Can It Work Anymore??

Sure wish there were still a lot of vocal/guitar or piano work in the mainstream. Peoples tastes are popularly against the simple stuff and that's not what's been selling. They gotta have a lotta bells and whistles to entertain them. I wonder with all the home-made music if there will be a trend...

    Magix Music Studio 2005 Deluxe

Sheesh, I'd hate to think that I am the only guy in the US that likes this software.

    The most expensive mic...

Telescopes are like hearing aids for the eyes. They magnify light as hearing aids amplify sound. Both have their limitations. A telescope may see far away but look through one at an object up close and the focus is lost. This condition may call for a magnifying glass. If you wish to get closer...

    Samplitude 11 opinions

I know it's not the latest greatest top-o-the-line model software, but it IS from the same publisher. I purchased Magix Music Studio 2005 Deluxe for $70.00 back in 2005 and I've been a happy clam with it. Samplitude is a much higher end product that's in the half to three quarter grand price...

Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

What's interesting about the Magix Music Studio 2005 Deluxe software I use is that it's quite featured and doable for the price. Definitely worth $70 I paid for back in 2005. It could probably hold it's own until I saved up for some high end product on the market. It's that good. Visually, the...

    Soundproofing your computer (fan noise)?

I don't know. My current system, which I am speaking of, is about 10 years old with an AMD athlon 800mHz CPU. The case is less than a year old but still the ATX architecture. The fan I was referring to is about 3" diameter and is right out there in front - I can figure out some of the means to...

    Helllppppp!!!!

Rob, Hardware Mic -----> mic cable ------> mixer ------> USB cable ------> Computer -------> soundcard Software You need recording software that will be compatible with your computer hardware and operating system (the sound card is obviously necessary) Preamps are needed to power...

    Helllppppp!!!!

I gotta agree with that advice. Rob, I imagine that you can ask for the alesis specific questions there on the alesis forum and recording techniques/interface equipment specific questions here. Again, remember to spill the beans about what you have for a computer. Don't worry if anyone laughs...

    Helllppppp!!!!

LOL.... Look, pilgrim, when I go to Burger King, I expect to get my burger done my way! Their motto is "have it your way". That's what that dude is sayin'. so..... think of your thread as an establishment in competition with other threads. You need neon advertisement to get anyone to look at...

    Soundproofing your computer (fan noise)?

I wonder if this ever got resolved. I have the same situation. I'd like to be able to keep the computer at arm's length but the fan is most definitely an issue. It's in a 4U rack mount case and uses one of those big fans that is situated beside the drive bays. I'm thinking some sort of foam...

    Small room...full band....recording...???

That sounds about right. You know, a lot of people have misconception about truck drivers - that ALL of em are huntin' for horizontal highway hostesses. T'aint true. When I drove, I drove. My loads were always on a tight time schedule and I barely had time to sneeze let alone goof around with...

    Small room...full band....recording...???

Doggy, I used to drive big rigs cross country for a living.... if you want to call it that. In fact, I've driven through Elko many times. I remember thinkin..... what do people do for a livin' in the middle of the desert? Granted, if it swells, there are girls who can take care of it right...

    Small room...full band....recording...???

Doggy, I've read somewhere that the band's jam session was recorded "live" for a scratch track and then each player would come back and play their own parts along with the scratch track and when all that was done, each track were edited to taste and finally all parts carefully placed together...

    Small room...full band....recording...???

ABC, NBC, CBS AND BBC, ETC....., YMMV, IMHO..... Curiously, could the band simply drink a pint of JD at three or would it HAVE to be a simple case of drinkin' beer for breakfast and 20 more for dessert to get that LIVE feel at 3pm in the studio? Maybe someone will come out with a Live at the...
