I don't think there is anything I ALWAYS do to a mix.
I guess I always hit the stop button when I am done recording.;)
I don't think this sounds like a good idea. Especially if your ears don't tell you it is necessary. Noise reduction like you are describing will almost always leave some type...
Isn't that dangerous? Or do you have a limiter on your monitor output? I'd never use in-ear monitors without some type of limiter at some point between the mixer and my ears.
You aren't going to hurt my feelings dude. I have no parade.:D
Just an example of a metal zone in front of a fender tube amp. That was probably my second attempt at micing a guitar cab. I think it sits nicely in the mix and sounds plenty heavy which was the point of this thread.
Not my holy...
My bro plays through a fender hotrod devill 4 x 10 combo. He can get just about any sound he wants out of it.
This is more rock than metal but I'm pretty sure we tracked these guitars on his fender with a metalzone in front of it.

Fixed that for ya.;)
Tell him to go home and practice to a metronome. Tell him to come back when he can keep decent time tune his kit properly and has a job or some way to come up with the money to properly maintain his instrument.
If I sound harsh it's because I just dealt with this exact...
I tried for quite some time to coax decent sounds from a poorly tuned drumkit with old heads. Trust me when I say it's not worth it. The drummer didn't know how to tune his drums properly and never had any money for new heads. He did manage to have enough money to go bar hopping every weekend...
That's what I thought. Tell em to get fucked they can call the cops if they don't like it. Cops would laugh their asses off at someone complaining about click click click. My wife's hairdryer is 10x as loud as a kick pad.
I don't worry about phase. Not that I'm not aware of it, I just don't worry about it. I set my mics. I record a little. I listen back if I hear phase issues I move one of the mics and then repeat until I don't hear any issues.
Walk around the room while you are playing and try to find where in the room the amp sounds the best. Stick the condenser there. I like to use a condenser to pick up a little bit of the room. I have a pretty nice sounding room to track in though so that makes a world of difference.
What audio interfaces?
Sometimes this can work and sometimes it doesn't.
I have had luck with using multiple M-Audio delta cards but I don't think 2 different brands of cards would work well together. You might end up with latency issues.
That's why I only mirror my data drive which only holds data. My system drive gets backed up with Acronis true image to an extrenal drive.
As far as viruses and the like. My DAW PC doesn't even sniff the internet. I don't even run virus protection on it.
If you do raid you gotta do it on the motherboard. Windows raid is crap. Most newer motherboards have decent SATA raid controllers. I agree that it's not worth it if you are looking for a speed improvement. I mirror (Raid 1) my data drives for redundancy/backup purposes.
Another zoom product to consider.

8 input interface USB or stand alone. Has stereo mics built in. Onboard effects, can be used as a control surface. A little pricier though.
I think it was Teyshablue that got one recently and posted a mini review...
