    What's more important...mic or preamp?

It all depends on the task at hand and assigning dollar amounts as universally good or bad is worthless IMO. You may pay much less for a Ford truck than a rocket... but you can't haul 25 sheets of drywall in rocket.... but it will get you to the moon. Ya dig?

    Dynamic or Condenser?

SM58 = rotten ball sack SM7 = Sweet delicious goodness They are not the same mic by a long shot. Another warning on the SM7. The SM7 was the first mic I ever got based on those older and wiser guiding me. I hated the mic. I listened to it soloed and nothing sounded big and fireworky... Well...

    Interface for reaper

There are all sorts of options. You are pretty safe with any of the offerings from EMU, M-Audio, MOTU, Presounus, Mackie, or RME. Past that it pretty much comes down to what features you want.

    "Locking" or "Freezing" Tracks?

Err, you lost me. Keep in mind, you don't render to a new track... you render to a new TAKE. Check it out: Right click the Item and choose Apply Fx as new take. Once it is finished rendering, click the little button next to FX to disable FX for that track. (Alternately, open the FX and disable...

    "Locking" or "Freezing" Tracks?

It is quick and easy as pie. Do it twice and you'll have the hang of it and wonder why you ever wanted traditional freeze.

Why must my mono songs become converted to "stereo" on cd

I think someone may have a slight chemical dependency. Either that or they are "feeling better" and stopped taking the meds. But holy crap.... um, some of that high end hurts my teeth.

    candy from sweetwater?

I could say god forbid folks know what these things actually cost to produce... but I also know in these niche markets where you sell only a few items, you have to have incredible markup and perceived value or you are out of business. 30% margin may be fair in some circles, but 30% margin on a...

    "Locking" or "Freezing" Tracks?

You have a few ways to do it... reaper doesn't have freeze as you are used to. It is a bit more flexible which some folks hate, but I prefer. You can render individual items or the whole track as stems... I usually render the parts so they are in the same track and then disable effects on the...

    candy from sweetwater?

Dude, I have an inside guy at Sweetwater I always use and if you simply ask, they knock their prices down s low as they can. You have to understand what MAP is. As a dealer of just about any brand you are required by contract to not advertise a product under the Minimum Advertised Price of...

    Why use a tube mic?

Same reason you salt the pasta in the water... it tastes different then if you salt just the sauce. :) Or to simplify, because it sounds different. Take guitar amps... different tube configurations lend to different sounds. A Twin doesn't sound like a JCM800 which doesn't sound like a Mesa...

Looking for a One Trick Pony...

Here is another perhaps better example of the Baby Bottle on acoustic. The acoustics don't kick in until about ~2:10. However, I just think that mic makes acoustics sound so warm and lush. http://warsaw.innova-partners.com/~cburke/TheSlang/FinalMixes/MiracleSound.mp3 Alright, I am done...

Looking for a One Trick Pony...

Yeah... which I like personally... but as in all of this, different strokes. I can't think of one mic that I have and like that is bright. For instance, I had a TLM103 for a while and hated it. it found its way to eBay quickly. So in all... if you want a bright/sparkley mic, forget the Baby Bottle.

Looking for a One Trick Pony...

I adore my BLUE baby bottle for acoustic instruments. And if you want stereo... M/S with a Baby Bottle and AT4050 is a great combo or put the Baby Bottle on the 12th fret and the AT4050 as an over the shoulder mic and pan em out. Not the best example... but here is a Baby Bottle on both...

Best Condenser Mic Under $600 Poll

The SM7 is a mic you never out grow... it works great on vocals, guitar amps, snare, kick sometimes... horns, piano... Hell, I have used it on damn near everything. I also have a few MD421s. They are more limted as find they work primarily on the occasional guitar cab and toms. Toms especially...

UA TwinFinity vs. Focusrite ISA One

The UA is too new... Based on my experience, UA always makes a solid product as I have the LA610 and UA4110 and love them both.... but for that specific unit... too new to know.
