We've Got A New "King Of The Low End" LDC...

Sounds to me that you're the type where if you look for something to like about a product, you'll find it. Likewise, if you look for something to dislike in a product...you'll find it.;) I'd have to say from my experience, you can take a mod only so far without having to replace things that are...

Great Deals on Clone SM57 & SM58, Cables & More...

I bought a bunch of them years ago. All my band's SM58's are back in their boxes. I occasionally think about getting some real 57's, but then do a "why?".

    Tube Mics, vs FET Mics

If I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be), I remember reading somewhere that on Led Zeppelin IV the studio had Robert Plant in the control room on a U47 while the tracks where recorded. Maybe those weren't the tracks they kept? I know Bonham had 2 U47's as overheads on the kit. (sorry...

    Tube Mics, vs FET Mics

    Ummmm...do you KNOW who you're talking to?;):D

If you look at the graph for that mic, there's really no peakiness. It flatter than any previous MXL models up until some if the new lines. If they're using good components inside it will keep hysteresis introduced there shouldn't be any harsh alterations to the signal. As long as that's the...

    Tube Mics, vs FET Mics

You're right on track, though. Several mic gurus that I talk to indicate that its really about topology. With the right design a FET circuit can be just as sweet sounding as tubes.

We've Got A New "King Of The Low End" LDC...

I wouldn't doubt it. I made modes to quite a few 2003 models, adding polypropylene and polycarbonate capacitors and installing K47 style capsules. What I ended up with was beyond "usable" to down right "impressive". Mics that could easily be compared to a U87 or perhaps even a U67. I would even...

    Neumann U87 Low output?

Probably a dumb question, but do you have the pad disengaged?

Busy as hell, man! How have you been? Really hoping to get out to Westfest this year. May even bring the whole "Green Day" act out there. We've had a ton of gigs and have built up a following. Even played the House of Blues on Sunset.

Can I mic drums overhead with a Perception 120?

A microphone's diaphragm size has nothing to do with the amount of bass it can capture. Read the "big thread" at the top of the forum.

    extremely effed up CAD M179 : (

Yeah, well that's kinda how it works, isn't it? "I drove my car yesterday and it was fine, then today the transmission went out. I don't know what went wrong?" or "My computer was fine yesterday. Today it won't start up. Why did it do that?" Stuff breaks sometimes. Electrical stuff...

    extremely effed up CAD M179 : (

The 179 does require quite a bit of power. Is your pre supplying a full 48v, or does it supply only 24v?

    Microphone impulse response?

Id have to agree with that. Its the whole reason for damping.

    Microphone impulse response?

I always use the phrase "transient response" when referring to transient response, but whatever floats yer boat I guess.:D

    Microphone impulse response?

The anechoic chamber will give you the best results since you can run white noise and get several snapshots. The TEF system requires a full range speaker and setting the mic at a measured distance from the speaker. Since we know the speed of sound you set the measurement delay based on how many...

    Microphone impulse response?

What do you mean by impulse response? Are you referring to the frequency response of the mic? Usually that's measured in an anechoic chamber, which are very complex rooms and hard to build. Another means is to use a TEF analyzer. Also hard to come by, but you might be able to find some demo...

    mics upside down

More specifically, it was first done with the Telefunken U47. The M7 capsule's diaphragm was made from poured PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which essentially started losing moisture and drying out from the minute it was poured and would suffer from cracking. A dried, cracked PVC capsule looks like a...
