How do you lay down your bass tracks?

I usually have the player go through my ampeg head into a 4x10 cab. I split the signal to get a direct signal and an amped signal. I stick either a D6, SM-91, or Kickball in front of the cabinet, like you would with guitar, combined with a LDC anywhere from 6-20 feet back. I really like how...

    Electric Bow effect

Whoever said they're hard to use and useless is either an idiot, shit guitar player, or both. They're great, extremely useful, and easy to use. I love recording tons of ebow overdubs, like an ebow orchestra.

    Increase sustain

What gear are you using? Thats probably your problem. I never use a compressor and have no problems with sustain.

How do I get STP Core sounding guitar?

In all seriousness, this is probably the best post in this thread. That guy is incredible. Its like asking, "How do I make my drums sound like 'Superunknown'?"

    Studio management tips?

I don't see a problem with taking a deposit? If they don't have the money up front, just part of it, thats a problem for me. All professional studies require a deposit, especially if they're usually booked.

    Studio management tips?

You need to take a deposit before their date and require payment before they leave (at the very latest before you give them a CD).

How do I get STP Core sounding guitar?

Thats a really wet record. Lots of chorus and reverb. I believe he was using marshall at the time too, not vox. Could be wrong...

    Pots/Switches

Just out of curiosity, whats all this going to cost you? Guitar? New pickups? Hardware, bridge, saddles, tuners? I've never been a big fan of the "buy a guitar and 'fix' it up" school. At the end of the day, its going to say Epiphone, its going to have lesser quality wood, etc. Just one...

    Building my new Pedalboard...

This way your tuner isn't in your signal chain. Your distortions are first. Your modulations, delays, and reverbs are after your volume so you can do swells, and if you turn down your volume via pedal, the delays and reverbs will naturally end. This is how I did it. I also own a '65 bassman...

Suggestions for micing a piano in a church

I would guess Harvey is thinking about moving the mics to the room instead of close micing the piano, not necessarily the effect human bodies have on sound. If its a church that was built to be a church, it probably has some pretty good acoustics. If there was no audience, I'd stick those MSHs...

    My tele deluxe

I forget who it was, but about a week ago someone said that their dream guitar was an old tele deluxe. I told them I'd post pictures of mine. Here they are. Its a '73 deluxe. Mocha (crap) brown. Beat all to hell. Sounds great. http://usera.imagecave.com/fakeplasticmeat/img030.jpg...

Heard a Peavey 6505 this weekend...

I own an older peavey butcher that I think is great for rock and that 80s metal sound. Not a HUGE fan of the 5150 or 6505 amps, but I'd gladly take one of those over a JCM2000 or a Rect.

    What is your dream guitar?

I own an original, its "mocha" and beat to hell. I love it. Was my dream guitar until I got it, you can't own your dream guitar can you?! I'll try to take some pictures this week.

    Effing Elixirs!

You've finally uncovered the guitar string maker's biggest hidden story thats been going on for over 50 years. They make G strings differently than other strings. They're made to break. Simple as that! ESPECIALLY elixers. Obviously I'm joking, but there are many things that could be of...

Best sounding album you have ever heard?

You should probably go back and listen to OK Computer if you think that it sounds like everything else during the late 90s. Some people are not going to like something because it was "critically acclaimed" or because everyone else likes it. It was an innovative record for many reasons. Tell...

Best sounding album you have ever heard?

I'm still waiting for those "techniques" you so aptly said we should name. I think thinking you're special makes you lame. What is wrong with listing good records? I know its "lame", but what else? And fishkarma, musicians only listen to old stuff? What the fuck does that mean. Are you...

    Suggestions for distortion pedal?

Big muffs definitely have plenty of bass, but try it out before you buy, those things are wicked. Ask if you can crank it, they sound like shit turned low. To the other poster, I own a '78 big muff, green russian one, and a new "US" one. GC Goons are that, goons. None of them are better on...

Best sounding album you have ever heard?

No Soundgarden Superunkown? Listen to those drums. Some of THE best rock drums captured on tape. OK Computer is probably my all time favorite for sound, though its definitely not the clearest. I think most of that sound comes from the Jane Seymour's frickin mansion they recorded in. I think...
