Beta SM58 or Beta SM57 for vocals?

the 57 and 58 are the same mics so they also should sound the same.

    "controlling" feedback

you need a cranked up tube amp - doesn't have to be high powered i use 5 watts, high gain pick ups or a boost or distortion pedal or both and a light weight guitar, some guys do it with a les paul but i find lighter guitars to feedback easier and more controlled. just stand within a 6 foot...

Looking for another $100 General Purpose Dynamic Mic

it's not a 'better' mike since it can't be used on the same broad scale of applicartions as an sm but on guitar cabs it does sound better imo.

Looking for another $100 General Purpose Dynamic Mic

i hardly ever use my sm57 on guitar cabs anymore since i have my 609. it sounds brighter and more open with more isolation. it just seems to cut through the mix better. and it is a great snare mike yes. sucks on vocals.

    beyerdynamic M201TG

does anybody know if the beyerdynamic M201TG is a decent microphone? i want to use it on toms and guitar amps. it's a dynamic that's supposed to sound something between an sm57 and a senn e606. anybody have any experience with them?

    "exciters"

exciters are rather tricky, use them wrongly or too excessive and they turn ugly. however in some cases and with some voices they work very well and add brightness and sparkle. there's just no telling untill you've experimented with them. one thing they don't do is make up for poor tracking...

Mastering Digital WAVs for Vinyl 7"

that's absolute nonsense. one of the reasons vinyl survived is just because it has a much better, more natural bass representation. or you reckon all those dance dj's do without sub bass???

drop spitfish. the effect is just too audable & i the esses don't necessarily have to be a problem - the occur in normal speech & aren't always unnatural in recordings.

    Last Lost Letters

i agree with ido. what i would do is get rid of the overall 'verb, apply the maximizer to an instruments mix and then add the vocals later to the mix so you don't have to use spitfish on it. also the eq on the vox : i know i said roll off but i actualy meanth shelve with a couple of dB

If you had only one reverb plug-in?

when you use impulse convulsion verbs a lot depends on the impulse files you use. i can only recommend you to spend some time with SIR and be amazed!!!

    Last Lost Letters

vocals are a tad too bright they could do with a gentle roll off around 4-6000 (?). also the reverb on the vox (my ears/brain aren't playing any tricks on me ? there's verb on those vox right?) is too bright emphasising the esses. that's the only thing i can come up with that's wrong with...
