I've done the research: How's my Decision?

First, on the controller, have you looked at the Fatar SL-990? It lacks zones and a few extra features, but it will save you a couple hundred dollars. I don't own one, but I've heard good things about it. I really haven't looked into sample players, so I can't give you any advice on the...

Yamaha S30 Good feedback on the S30, Sjoerd. It was one of the keyboards I was considering, and it ended up being the runner-up to the Alesis QS7.1. The QS7.1 was actually less money, had some weight to the keys, and had 76 keys instead of 61. As a thought, for 61 keys, an Alesis QS6.1...

I'm new around here - wanna introduce myself

Alliterative advice It seems a simple solution to said sibilance should be to supply a screen for singing. And if she can say that (or this) sentence "sans sibilance", the singing situation is solved! :D

    people who need mp3 storage.

An ounce of prevention... No, kristian, I responded to exactly what you were getting at. Your post topic and first post said, and I quote: So if Lagoona got sick of their mp3 account... see? mp3.com may be irritating to some, but they allow you to upload as many songs as you want...

    people who need mp3 storage.

A few thoughts on DigitalSpace's plans and hosting in general The first thing that came to mind with DigitalSpace's $3 plan was "monthly transfer limit". Both the $3 and $7 packages have a 2.5GB monthly transfer limit. This isn't that bad, as it will allow users approximately 600-800...

Acceptable nearfield monitor noise level question (LSR25P)

I did disconnect the input cables, and there was no difference. It could be a grounding problem, as I'm running a 7-plug surge protector off of a 2 --> 3 prong plug adapter and 8' extension cord. I know, I know. It's not the best way to set things up. However, I don't have any 3-prong plugs...

POD 2.0 - Swiss Army Knife or One-Trick Pony?

I definitely know about tweaking and working with multi-effects processors; I have a Korg A5 guitar effects pedal, which I have been using for quite some time. With any such unit, you always have to spend a fair amount of time fiddling with the settings to get the sound you're looking for...

Acceptable nearfield monitor noise level question (LSR25P)

Actually, the cables running to the monitor speakers are balanced 1/4" to XLR cables. When testing the speakers, nothing was delivering input to the speakers. The "buzz" could be power noise, but the hiss seems inherent in the speakers themselves.

Acceptable nearfield monitor noise level question (LSR25P)

I have a couple of JBL LSR25P studio monitor speakers that are about 2.5 weeks out of the store. With all of the other DAW equipment turned off, I listened to the two speakers at full volume, with nothing coming through them. One of them has an electronic "buzz", and both of them have a faint...

POD 2.0 - Swiss Army Knife or One-Trick Pony?

Okay, I will consider the J-station as well, since two people have mentioned that it has bass and electric guitar support. However, the original question still stands... does anyone know if the POD 2.0 can be used for bass as well as guitar? Bdgr - Thanks for the input, and good deal on the...

POD 2.0 - Swiss Army Knife or One-Trick Pony?

I've recently been considering picking up a Line 6 POD 2.0 for guitar recording. My question is, is the POD 2.0 only good for guitar, or can it be used for other applications as well, such as bass guitar and vocals? I know that maryslittlesecret (from 30SoS) uses it for bass as well as guitar.

Use a tube pre boost, to quiet Pod?

...and watch the computer monitor... One of the biggest "noisemakers" for guitars is the computer monitor. I was getting a lot of buzz with my guitar at first, then I turned 90 degrees from the computer monitor, and it disappeared. Essentially, the signals eminating from the monitor screen...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: (eat your heart out, Aretha!) Thanks, and a few questions Yes. :) Seriously, I've been dealing with a very helpful, fairly knowledgeable salesperson, and we got into a discussion of how his store had been losing a lot of help, mostly due to people going to other...

How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?

So the maximum SPL rating for an SM57 would vary according to the kind of sound being recorded, instead of there being a single SPL rating for all applications?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Thanks, and a few questions If you are planning to "sidestep" to your next keyboard, I would recommend the Yamaha S03 ($500) over the XP-10. The S03 has 64-voice polyphony vs. 28 on the XP-10. The S03 has 700+ voices; Yamaha's XG and GM sounds and many other high-quality...

How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?

Speaking of physics equations... Apparently, this is Shure's answer to "What is the maximum SPL rating for an SM57?" Can a dynamic microphone handle really loud sounds? as asked in Maximum SPL for dynamic mics Any thoughts, Harvey?

    First Microphone: SM57 or SM58?

How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?

I can't imagine you could have gone into this subject any more fully without using physics equations and detailed tutorials on how to build a microphone from the ground up. ;) This thread is, in my opinion, a definite "must-read" for prospective microphone buyers. That said, I could just be...

Re: Re: Thanks, and a few questions Denis (amd) - It got a little buried, but check back a couple of pages... I addressed that term, and answered my own question. You were correct, I just hadn't heard of the term at that time. For reference: aftertouch (n.) - a property of a...
