    You Don't Say

Er... maybe I shouldn't of said that. I'm going by the assumption that the lyrics are important and that you want them to be heard and understood... if the delay is too loud than you essentially have several people singing at the same time, which can be difficult to follow. I'm not saying...

    Distorted Guitar Cab Micing

Actually I did an experiment with miking distorted guitar amps a couple of weeks ago. I had a guitar player play while I moved one 57 around the front of the amp, adjusting the position, distance, and on/off axis of the mic. After listening to what the mic picked up it's amazing at how even a...

Which sounds better: v1 or v2?

I think it seems to lack fullness because the third version is simply quieter than the second. I also like the punchiness of the drums in the second version, but overall I think version three is the best. Maybe you could turn down the kick a bit and add some low end oomph to it around 40-80...

    You Don't Say

Everything that's been said before I agree with: timing, laying back on the vocal effects... The only thing I can add is that the more effects you add to the vocals the more unintelligible the lyrics become (I'm pulling that statement out of my ass, but it does seem like common sense). For me...

    RollingStones "Memory Motel"

I really like the drum sound you get man, especially the kick! nice and punchy. Sounds like you're doing your best Jagger impression as well. ...You've got the moves like Jagger! ... I'll see myself out

Studio Expansion! Have 25k to Spend! Help me do it!

For the console/controller have you ever heard of the Allen and Heath GSR-24M? It's more expensive then the Toft and the Nucleus, but it's easily integratable within the digital realm. I've never used one myself, but after reading up on it it seems like a helluva board. Might be just what you...

My new CD "RUB HER SOLE" is out.

Thanks; I'm actually mixing Say No More from the Mix this forums. I gotta say I'm quite impressed with your stuff, you've reminded me just how much you can do with only guitar, bass and drums... jeez that almost sounds like a backhanded compliment, but trust me, it ain't!

My new CD "RUB HER SOLE" is out.

I got a question for your rami- A few of the tracks on the album are covers. I'm not trying to bust your chops or anything but seeing as this is an independant release how does one go about paying the original composer of the covered songs? I'm hoping this isn't going to open up the whole...

    Jazz big band mix

Huh; I actually did put reverb on it. I figured anymore than what's there would be too much!

    Jazz big band mix

Yeah I suppose i should've mentioned this was done live so there's bleed everywhere... makes things a little more difficult. I hadn't noticed that it was leaning to the left; but now that you mention it it does sort of do that. Thanks for your input!

WARNING: this track is slightly vulgar.... enjoy.... nutsack

You know I was listening to this in mono by mistake... I thought everything sounded crammed in the middle. But after listening to it in stereo I think you can turn up the vocals. It's a bit hard to understand, and perhaps to make them more intelligible you can ease up on the distortion a bit...

The second link doesn't actually work either.

    Jazz big band mix

Hey everyone, Here's an old school assignment I did last year. My recording teacher supplied the raw tracks for the class to mix. I decided to have another go at it... Let me know what you think of it! The mp3 file was too big to be uploaded so I had to cut out the second half so it would...

    Komodor Cabbage....work in progress

This is pretty sweet. Kinda like Stooges meets Van Halen. The bass sounds awesome; it's nice to hear it take the lead every now and then. Only thing missing is some dirty vocals!

    Lend Your Ear

Sorry for the late response; I thought you had forgotten about this thread. Listening to it again I still find it a little clicky. I guess I'm more of the opinion that kicks should rather be felt as a driving force then heard. I don't mind a little click for definition, but once I hear it...

    The Time is Magic

I'm really digging that Strat tone man! You have some amazing chops; very inspiring stuff. Really great tune; it grooves really nicely!!

Absorption/calculating room modes of non rectangular rooms

All the room mode calculators I've seen assume that your room is a square/rectangular shape. However my room specifically is more of a weird L shaped room. As far as my knowledge of room modes is concerned, the distance between any two parallel walls will create a "mode" at a frequency with...

    Lend Your Ear

Maybe this is more of a style thing, but you've got a really clicky metal sounding kick drum for a really not metal tune. Are you using drum samples for the kick? I find that it's somewhat lacking in dynamics and it sounds a bit robotic. Besides that the mix sounds nice and balanced. Pretty...

    Distorted Guitar Cab Micing

I always meant to read Slipperman's guide... However by quickly looking through it it looks like to me a small amount of actual info spread out through a ton of anecdotal nonsense... As hilarious as it may be, I can't be bothered sifting through all that. I usually stick a 57 half a foot or...

Shure BETA 58A or Rode NT2-A?

I actually just got an NT2-A a week ago. I'm very happy with it. I'm with the others on this one, go with the Rode. It's more versatile then the 58 since it has switchable polar patterns and a bass roll off switch.
