    Cubase - Version Help

Yeah, Cubase's de-esser is really not the best out there. It's very limited, and doesn't work as well as it should.

    Cubase - Version Help

The one thing that you get with Cubase 5 (not sure if it's in the Studio version) is the compressor which is VST3 now and most importantly allows proper sidechaining. If you don't care for sidechaining, then I'd say the cubase built-in plugs are pretty basic. Although Reverence convolution...

    Electric Vs. Acoustic drums.

:laughings: No  You can use a bass as a bass, or get more creative and figure out ways to coerse more interesting soundscapes out of it. You can use SpaceEcho if you wish :D

    me want record! Seriously

See, lo-fi to me is like torn jeans. Back in the 80's we just wore them out and kept wearing them even after they tore, cuz they kinda looked cool. Now it's a fad and you can buy designer jeans that are torn in pretty patterns. To me, kinda misses the point.

    Electric Vs. Acoustic drums.

That's only because Gergles secretly wishes he could play keyboards.

    Electric Vs. Acoustic drums.

Of all keyboard instruments harpsichord is by far my favorite both to play and to listen to. Although I find synths to be by far the most expressive, just by the fact of the sheer vastness of different types of sound you can create.

Acoustic drums are cool and have their place. Why are you so angry?

    Electric Vs. Acoustic drums.

Except when you don't want realistic sounds. There is a reason why things such as Roland's TR-808 and TR-909 have attained cult status. Also, try having reverse hits with acoustic drums :D

I dare you all to make music with no drums and no geetars for a week.

    stereo doubling that doesn't suck

This is the reason you're getting that flanging sound. Try actually doing double takes. With synth sounds this is not going to work, especially with digital synths (even VA), however with vocals and guitars, this is the best way to go.

What are YOUR essential rack effects?

    They have. http://www.museresearch.com/receptor2.php http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_manifold_labs_plugzilla/ http://www.smproaudio.com/produkte/v-machines.html

What are YOUR essential rack effects?

Yes. But it's easy to have DSP intensive code such as good quality reverbs running on dedicated DSP processors, where as on a generic CPU you hare to compromise because even with powerful CPUs, they still have to deal with running all kinds of other things. So in the end you end up with a code...

How do I achieve this quality?...

What are YOUR essential rack effects?

Unless you don't use mics. In which case, I'd say the first thing to get that would OTB would be a nice hardware reverb unit. I still find software reverb lacking... although haven't heard the new Lexicon jobbie that costs over $1000, but at that cost, it better deliver!

    Who Gets the Low End?!!

Gonna repost from the other thread, with some additions. Considering I am firmly in electronica, I don't use bass guitar or guitars, and my "drums" are either synthesized or sampled, sooo.... For me it depends on what style of stuff I'm doing. If it's Drum and Bass, it's usually the Subbass...
