Won’t Stop Believin (not to be confused with Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin”)

TripleM, thanks for the feedback. Drums are a bit loud but there's not a real lot going on in the song with the guitar parts that are very interesting; they could come up a bit. I'll have to go back a list to the distorted guitar but I don't think I did much more than roll off the low end. I...

    Best mic type for violin?

I'm partial to ribbons. Royer 121, expensive but it's a keeper. Coles as previously suggted are another good choice.

Won’t Stop Believin (not to be confused with Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin”)

Thank you for your feedback, I greatly appreciate it. Yeah there are a few hot spots in the drums. Sane is a bit upfront, could use a bit more middle but I think it works. The mix currently has no automation and could definitely benifet form it. Vocal effects need a bit more work as well...

Won’t Stop Believin (not to be confused with Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin”)

Here's my mix of a Maranatha Church – Chicago song Won't Stop Believin from a mix contest. This is the first pass at the mix and is still a work in progress but would appreciate your feed back. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/56269175/Don%27t%20Stop%20%28Master%201%29.mp3 Thanks, Simman

Miroslav I wouldn't hesitate to record a cover either.

    Recording a cover song?

Well, this may or may not be true but I think you may be confusing having a suit filed against you and having judgment rendered against you. To that point: I would say it depends on who's song is being covered and by whom. If an "A list" band covers another "A list" band's song I would...

    Recording a cover song?

Given the fact that you can pretty much be sued by anyone for anything in the US, if they are paying you to record the cover song you might just be better off avoiding recording the cover. There is so much double speak regarding use of copyrighted material it is a virtual mine field. I'm not...

    Recording a cover song?

I'm not an attorney and you should use your own judgement but, as long as you're not handling publishing & distribution, I don't believe you would be held libel (which should not to be confused with not being sued and having to defend yourself) since the act of recording the cover itself is not...

    Mix Feedback

Bass needs to come down ... overall mix seems muddy and dull to me. Not sure the David Ruffin/Temptations samples aren't a licensing issue but the song interesting

    Drum replacement ....its stupid!

Drum samples to augment the actual recorded drums is common place so there should be no surprise with that. However, out-and-out drum replacement, with limited exception, is more a result of poor tracking (which may be a result of a host of reasons). If your drummer sucks, and you need to use...

    Emulating analog tracking to Tape

I'm not starting any analog vs digital debate but I have to disagree;I don't think there was/is any drawback to the "analog sound". I would agree that using a razor blade is far less convenient than cut and paste.

    bass track

The question is completely pointless without context. In this instance the context is the bass track and how it interacts with every other track. Any advice about gear, plug-ins and or EQ frequency boost/cuts without hearing the track/source in the context of the other tracks is basically a...

Mixing board recommendations for circa $4k or less?

Board is in like new condition. Have extra channel strip (brand new in box) and all original boxes/pallet. Currently installed and operational in studio in NJ. I love the board but I hardly use it so I am considering parting with it. I can get better pictures - If really interested PM me.
