    Name this mic

I haven't done any mic shopping since the 80s, so anything newer than that is lost on me. :o For me it's all RE-20s, Crown PZMs, Shure SM57s et al. Guess I'm set in my ways when it comes to mics. Carl

    Send Effects on Midi tacks

The answer should be obvious to you. Audio effects are designed to have a result to audio. MIDI is not audio. There are only a few ways you can add effects to MIDI. If the MIDI sequence controls a software synth within your computer If you send the audio from the MIDI divice into the...

    MIDI Controllers

Construction is one factor. Action is another. Amount of onboard controls like knobs and sliders is still another. Number of keys. Pitch and mod wheels. Assignable Pitch and mod wheels. How it is powered, i.e., AC, AC/Battery, Battery, USB, MIDI, USB/MIDI. Display. Programmability...

    standalone midi patchbays

Well, I've only owned two MIDI thrubox type routers. The MIDIman which is about 10 years old now and still works like a champ and my MOTU XT which is more like 20 years old and also works like a champ. For what you pay (about $70) the MIDIman can't be beat for reliable simplicity. You have...

    Guitar decapitated! Help!

It must be something about guitarists. There's another thread about what name you have for your guitar. Excuse the eyeroll, but as a keyboard player, I don't see it. I have strong attachments and loyalty to the make and model of my boards, but not the individual specific board...

    Guitar decapitated! Help!

Unless you named it or something, I suggest a new one. <click me for a few> Carl

made a pop filter, now have a question

Here's how I made mine. I opened my wallet, paid $10 and attached it to a mic stand. Viola! And it looks EXACTLY like the kinds you find in stores. :D Carl

    standalone midi patchbays

You want to control a bunch of stuff with one keyboard right? Your cheapest option is probably the Midiman 3x8. It is a small stand alone router that's pretty cheap and VERY reliable. <click me to buy one> Carl

Connection a Casio digital piano to computer to use Cubasis VST 4.0

I'm confused. I thought you wanted to record MIDI with your keyboard, not audio. Carl

    Rack gear

Okay, I'll try to give you my best answer to this, no joking. If I had to pick just one it would have to be a fine reverb unit. Reverb is an absolute must. Carl

If You Play Guitar Everyday, Please Read This!

I get bouts of tendinitis too. Here's how I handle it (haven't had an attack in a few years now). Give your fingers a vacation. Buy yourself a parifin bath and use it. It's a basin that melts parifin wax. Put your hand(s) in turn into the bath. It's hot as hell! When you're done doing that...

I need 1/4" chassis mount jacks and 5 pin DINs on the cheap!

Seems like the asking price for some compenants are all over the map. I've found some MIDI sockets (5 pin chassis mount DIN) online for as low as $0.69 and as high as $6. Likewise for the quarter inch phono jacks. Thing is that the less expensive online sources require a $25 minimum order...

Connection a Casio digital piano to computer to use Cubasis VST 4.0

It could be so many things. Are you sending on the right channel? Is your MIDI setup correct in Control Panel? Is your Casio set for Local On and no send? Wait a minute! You got your Guitar to work? There are different settings for Guitars than keyboards. Is your PC set up for MONO? That's...

Chassis mount DIN 5 MIDI sockets?

Anyone know the standard knockout hole for a MIDI socket? Middle Atlantic makes a module rack panel with an assortment of precut holes. Problem is that none of them explicitly call themselves MIDI or even DIN openings. I'm sure that one of them is appropriate but I don't know which. Here's...

    Passive MIDI patchbay?

Well, one thing is for certain. I'm not the only one that has had a similar dilemma and tried to solve it himself. <click me> It's too bad this isn't even a close match to what I ultimately need. However, it's nice to see that this is more than just a little doable. Carl

Connection a Casio digital piano to computer to use Cubasis VST 4.0

A mistake that I almost always make is accidentilly swapping the In and Out ports with the PC. Try swapping the MIDI cable hooked up to the Casio's Out port and see if that helps? Carl
