    Korg Vs. Yamaha Vs. Anyone

In terms of authentic sounding instruments, the Yamaha can't be beat. Thing is that for Progressive rock, authentic sounding instruments isn't what you really want. You want wild syth leads, fat pads and moogy bass sounds. The Korg is better for that stuff. The Yamaha piano in particular is...

    Korg Vs. Yamaha Vs. Anyone

What exactly is a "soft" progressive rock group? For Progressive Rock (the regular kind) I think I would lean toward the Korg, however consider that instead of getting the regular Triton keyboard, perhaps you purchase the rack version and a MIDI controller? This way you can shop around for...

    Question

You will most certainly be missing, pitch and mod wheels and aftertouch. You may be missing velocity sensitivity. Other than that, any keyboard with a MIDI out will work to some extent. Especially for step recording. Carl

    Equipment needed for MIDI production?

What a cute toy! As for your questions, it would help to know more about what you plan to use it for. The answer could be yes to everything you asked but maybe not. Carl

    How 'complex' are your songs...?

I'm a progressive rocker and my compositions reflect that. By definition, my music MUST be complex. It's a style/genre thing. Carl

    CB Radio Mics

You could rewire it, but I think you're giving the microphone the credit for the CB radio itself. I think you'll find that if you manage to adapt a standard CB mike to a recording console it'll just sound like a crappy old mic. The easiest way to replicate what you want is to buy yourself a...

    getting midi out to computer

Tracks and channels, like MIDI and audio are two different animals. There must be a place in your software for MIDI setup or MIDI preferences. You need to assign the output to channel 10 or give it an "send all" setting. Carl

    getting midi out to computer

Your drum machine is probably recieving on channel 10. I'll bet your card is sending to channel 1 only. You could either configure your card to send on all 16 channels or just channels 10 and 1. Carl

    getting midi out to computer

Audio and MIDI are mutually exclusive. MIDI isn't audio and audio isn't MIDI. MIDI is just data that tells things to do stuff. Since you said you want to use your drum sounds from your Yamaha programmer and expected this to work with just MIDI hooked up I saw your problem immediately. Just...

If you had to, could you produce a solid recording with a single $100 mic?

I've made at least one good recording with no mics. All keyboards and a drum machine. Carl

    Passive MIDI patchbay?

I've come up with a way to provide stress relief for the MIDI cables at least. I'm going to use a tie wrap near the business end of the cable. When it's nice and tight (but not too tight) I'm going to then thread the same tie wrap through one of the eyes of an unused pin (these eyes are...

    Passive MIDI patchbay?

Well, I'm taking my time and soldering the right way (no cold joints). My big concern here is stress releif. There's really no place to provide any. At least not in such a way that just taking my adhoc patch bay out won't cause even more stress. There's no room behind the rackspace for any...

    Passive MIDI patchbay?

Here's where I stand so far. I've recieved almost all of the hardware that I need for this project. I'm still waiting for two MIDI connectors that were backordered and didn't ship with the other four. So far I've goten three MIDI connections soldered and tested (three more to go) and one of...

Tapered Reamer, Hole Saw, Metal Punch?

Of course all of this advice is coming to me after I've already purchased a knockout punch. (A Greenlee Slugsplitter, good brand) I have high hopes for this tool and suspect that it will work nicely. I'll let you know if it doesn't. Carl

Tapered Reamer, Hole Saw, Metal Punch?

I need to bore out some quarter inch holes in a Raxxess plate designed for installing quarter inch phono jacks. I'm going to be putting in six MIDI 5 pin DIN sockets into this and the DINS are about 1/2" in diameter. Since I need to add another quarter inch to the exiting hole, what should I...
