I will do but it’s going to take quite a bit of time, I’ve taken a lot of the advice on board here and I’m going to focus on my performance which has been slap dash for 20 years. Regarding the BG1, I was surprised where it sat in that table. I’d say it’s very clean sounding not mid way.

    Prince's Recording Method?

Thanks for all the information so far, even although it's not exactly what i'm wanting it's helping to motivate me at least. Hopefully people keep contributing!

I've bought an RE20 mic, along with a DAV BG1 and an Avalon U5 DI. Shouldn't have any excuses now for recording into my RME HDSPe AIO via those means. I'm also going to get a measurement microphone and try to get my room more to where I want it to be with my rockwool panels.

    Prince's Recording Method?

That would be amazing if you could, really just interested in the mechanics of how he did it. Not into his secrets or what equipment he used as I want to walk my own path. :)

I like that idea actually, never thought about doing that. I was going to make a thread a while back asking about if anyone had created an analogue digital hybrid DAW. EG record to the DAW then output each channel to a mixing desk so you have finger control over the mix. I don’t know if it’s...

    Prince's Recording Method?

Specifically when he played all the instruments himself, does anyone have any information about how he went about his business when recording? Did he record a guide track or was he into laying down entire sections of instruments as everything was already in his head. Etc

As I’ve already said I’ve treated my room with Rockwool panels, I am also satisfied I am able to write very good songs after around 20 years experience doing it. I know I can get the tracks down and I can use interesting production techniques. The instrument performance requires a little more...

That’s why I thought using the TB12 with the RE20 would be a good idea. The TB12 looks like it’s able to do clean and coloured well and has a lot of tonal options on there like changing transformers, caps etc. But in the end I’m guessing, sadly I know no one that can hear my voice - which I’m...

Earlier I was thinking about getting an RE-20 mic along with the TB12. Was also thinking about the DAV BG1, but there is limited info about it online.

Some excellent advice in this thread, should have come here sooner rather than confusing myself and tearing my hair out wondering why the hell im not getting where I want to be. I’ve never documented settings, which is silly because I’ve only a few times felt - that guitar sounds great etc and...

I think what you said about re-recording is massive. I like most other people I guess hear the partial arrangement in their head like a slice of the cake - all instruments moods and feelings hit me. Then I go straight in and record it. By manner of something becoming physical instead of just...

I have Yamaha actives and I use beyerdynamic headphones as well as listening in the car/consumer systems to get a feel for what others will hear. I know you’d all find this boring but I’d rather set up the microphone to an amp once. Ready for recording every time - the best place it can be and...

    Another bloody preamp thread

I can’t really post any samples as I haven’t copyrighted my music yet. I’ll have to cover something and post it instead because I’m wanting to release the songs in bulk. I’m also concerned if I post something and people say it’s shit my already shaky confidence will be permanently damaged. I...

    Another bloody preamp thread

I dont know what to say, I just want my music to be presented in the best way possible because I can now say my music is very good. I thought the mic I had and the interface I had was good and all I needed was a decent preamp, but it looks like I am lost again.

My main vocal mic is the Audio-Technica AT2035, but I also have SM57 beta and sm57 mics.

Just now I’m using a Allen and heath zed10 going into a RME HDSPe AIO. I guess I just feel a bit overwhelmed with tech as I’m having to do everything else myself. I’d much rather just be told do this and do that and you’ll not go wrong. The room cannot be treated apart from the rock wool panels...

    Another bloody preamp thread

Hi everyone, I’m getting to the stage of releasing some really good stuff but I’m not happy with my recordings. I’ve never had a good preamp so I’d like to get a pro quality single channel that’s versatile enough to do vocals, bass and guitar. Now I am open to having two preamps costing around...

In the market for a new bass DI... a versatile one

I don't think it is a prob with the bass mate, it's either my lack of skills or equipment. It's just a standard usa precision bass, it was second hand so the only thing i can think of is if someone had modded it before selling it back to the shop. I'll maybe post a recording if i've got time...

In the market for a new bass DI... a versatile one

Sansamp seems to get a lot of love but I wasn't too keen on it when I had it, they do have other products beyond the bass driver I had. I'll have a few more listens to their different products online. ---------- Update ---------- Interesting mate, I'll have a listen to both of them and let...

In the market for a new bass DI... a versatile one

I thought a DI box could also include processing to shape the sound? I would consider the Sansamp etc to be a DI with a preamp?!? It allows the guitar signal to be of line level and converts from jack to XLR!
