    analog/digital hybrid recording

Hey there was some buzz about that a couple months ago. I was particularly interested in it to..... Here's a link that I think will direct you to a post called "reel recording" that should help answer some questions. Reel Recording I looked it up, sonar will sync to your tape deck with...

    "Reel" Recording

Interesting stuff about the soundcraft ghost.... I didn't know that the fader data would be sent to the computer, too. In fact, that's friggin awesome. Its like a control surface then, sorta. Now, does the board have motorized faders to play back your mix with?? This thing has gotta cost a...

    "Reel" Recording

kensington... about recording analog and dumping it to digital... A lot of people do it. I wrote a whole big argument in the computers and soundcards forum about sample rates and why digital is kinda bad for ultra high frequencies, but we all know that first of all, our finished product is...

    The best of both worlds.

he he this isn't going to help my case either. I miked the amp with a sm57 (standard) straight into a mackie vlz mixer. the sound was actually pretty good, i just wanted something else.

    "Reel" Recording

Yes. Good points. I come from the digital world, where you want a new track, you click a couple times and you got it. he he he of course i wan't that with analog too! ha ha ha. Well, i figured out how to do it, though, if people are curious. You need to buy a little sync box from JC cooper...

    The best of both worlds.

I would beg to differ with the "digital sound myth." The beginnings of rock were recorded analog because there was no digital then. Part of the rock sound is a distorted guitar amp pushing tape hard. That's what i was looking for. Of course, that doesn't work for all situations and whatnot...

    The best of both worlds.

I've got a digital setup now running off of my computer. Great for hassle-free clean audio and GREAT editing. BUT... I recently had a punk rock band in my studio. The recorded guitar sound was never quite right. It just sounded digital, you know? Really harsh, not like the sound coming...

    "Reel" Recording

Hmmm... My guy at sam ash told me that i should be able to do it with MMC... but i don't know what all equipment is required to do that. I am not in a position to go strictly analog. Maybe to track strictly analog, then dump into digital... which might not be a bad idea just to start with...

    "Reel" Recording

WONDERFULL!!!! I am also looking to add analog to my studio, and you post was more than helpfull... But i still have a couple questions. Right now, it is too expensive for my to do all my tracking on analog machines, as bands I record will want more than 8 tracks. I really need to be able to...

    Studio Monitors.

Just an interesting tale... I had a punk band in my studio that i was recording, and while i was tracking i had been kinda mixing as I went along. I use Cakewalk Sonar and a couple Hi-Fi junk speakers. Well, my soundcard began to flip out and consequently, I had to bring the whole project over...

Vocals get muddy the lower I go...

I dont' think it's a problem of the SPLs... I think it could still be the proximity effect. It would just be more evident if the proximity effect is boosting the frequencies that you happen to be singing. So, i would back off maybe a bit, and for sure put that low pass filter on... remember...

Better ways to record a CHOIR ??

Hey. I have a *little* live choir experience, NOTHING like what you are doing though. But I have a few suggestions: 1) Keep the rule of thirds in mind when miking... in other words, Put each mic no less than 3 units away from each other, where one unit is the distance of the mic to the...

    PA speakers

Hey barefoot, thanks a TON! That Selenium thing looks like a monster. Unfortunately, it will essentially double the total cost of my project. Hmm...... I'll take a look at your post, too, cuz they seem like they might be similar in price. What kind of commercial speakers would either of...

    PA speakers

No, i'm not working from plans... (or any formal plans... The cabinet design is going to be the appropriate dimensions and all, but I'm not working from any pre-set plans.) I am using the following: 270-065 MOTOROLA KSN1142A HORN DRIVER with 270-092 HORN LENS 7-11/16" x 6-1/8" x 4 290-382...

    PA speakers

Before I get flamed out, I know this is not a RECORDING topic. But it's close. I want to build some PA speakers, and I'm cusious to see if any of you have ever done such a thing as that, or something similar and can give me some pointers. I'm planning on ordering the drivers and parts from...

    Mixing Acoustic Guitar! Help Needed!

I don't know if EQ is always the answer... can make one a lazy person. I recorded a project where I was going for a bigger solo guitar sound, and I ended up running the output from a pickup into an electric guitar amp that was miked up, and mixing that with the actual accoustic guitar mic...

Are the "Loops for Acid" CD's any good?

Anyone own any of the Loops for Acid CD's? Are they worth the kinda hefty price tag of like $50 a pop? I don't like the sample CD that came with Acid 2.0.... the sounds are too muddy and there aren't enough USEFUL sounds. Can anyone compare the two? P.S... Any thoughts on the "idie" sample...

    Drivers and stuff... Spontaneous Corruption!

hey all. I have been having computer probs lately, and I just recently found out what must have been causing the whole dealy-bop. I use a Layla by Echo sound card, and the drivers must've spontaneously corrupted themselves. I reinstalled my OS (windows ME) and my cakewalk, I error-checked my...

What comes first - music or lyrics?

Wow, thats a lot of posts.... I think I'll add my two cents. Music or lyrics is a matter of style, i think... but if you are going to do music first, do this: Start with a REALLY GOOD melody line... THis is what makes your song music instead of a bunch of chords thrown together. I've tried...

All Songwriters Read And Stand Up

Napster = Tool Hey... I just did a ton of research on the whole Napster debate for an argumentative paper. I am angry at people who use Napster as a substitute for buying the CD. I know a friend who "owns" probobly 20-30 burned CDs, all from Napster. But Napster, just like any tool or...
