Ok guys, here is a link to the pre-final version (by that I mean it has all vocal parts recorded and such) feedback? Thanks a lot! http://people.ucsc.edu/~sdhawkin/Solitaire.mp3

New song, looking for some feedback

OK guys, thanks for all the helpful feedback. I've taken it into account on the new version. The whole song still isn't done because Im still just trying to perfect my technique and everything, but please give it a listen and let me know. The same link still works. (the newSong2.mp3 one)...

New song, looking for some feedback

You can play back the drum track as a midi whenever you want to listen to how it sounds. Of course, it sounds sort of fake and computerized but you can get a general idea of what you have.

New song, looking for some feedback

Hey guys, so I finished some of the vocals (up to the first chorus) and my ears are fried. What do you guys think? Any good? Any comments are much appreciated. http://people.ucsc.edu/~sdhawkin/newSong2.mp3

New song, looking for some feedback

To be completely honest, I can't take too much credit for production here. All the guitar tones came from my Line6 Toneport, and the drums were done with EZ drummer. Granted, I composed everything, but still, the tone quality from this thing was awesome after I spent a little time fooling...

New song, looking for some feedback

I definitely understand the roomy comment. I turned the room and overhead mics up a bit too much I think in the mix. I will try and fix this. Thanks for the comment!

    Choosing a first condenser.

If you manage to hook up a pair of SM57's to a decent pre-amp, it CAN be used (not the best choice) to mic accoustic guitar, it just depends where you place each mic and how you EQ them. Since I'm a poor starving college student with nothing but a pair of 57's to my name, this is how i go about...

    Hard Rocker with vocals

Ok, I re-did the verses again, finished the song pretty much, lowered the guitars, and boosted the drums and vocals. Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated.

    Hard Rocker with vocals

Hey guys, this is honestly my first time trying to record vocals and so I would love to receive some honest, critical feedback if you guys have any for me. The vocals aren't done yet because I want to get some feedback before I throw down any more. As always, thanks for listening, and if you...

    Rough Draft - Metal

Awesome man, great job on the mix, and the song is very ominous and foreboding. The guitars sound just a little thin IMO, but that could definitely go away once you add in vocals, because everything will sit better.

    Opinions on original metal song?

Wow guys, this is some really great and useful feedback. I will definitely look at all this stuff as soon as I get the chance to work on this (I'm in class right now XD)

    Melodic Speed\Thrash Metal Instr.

Well it's not terrible, it just needs some improvement in a couple of key areas. The guitar tone is just a bit too fizzy IMO. If that was what you were going for than by all means, ignore this. But otherwise, I would recommend increasing the mids on this track. If you recorded via a mic...

    New song, need help w/mix

Hey Minerman, The mix overall sounds good, and the vocals aren't bad. THey have a sort of Layne Staley texture to them, except lower. my only comment is that the rhythm guitar is a bit fizzy. I'm not sure how you recorded them, but if you used a mic, I would suggest pushing it more the...

    Opinions on original metal song?

Thanks for the feedback WhiteStrat, I will take a look at the mix and see if I can turn the bass up. I get hesitant to do it because I'm using crappy soundfonted bass...I really need to find a decent bass VST, or come into possession of a decent bass rig in order to do this stuff the right...

Ear Against the Wall (a quickie composition)

Hey, I'm a newbie, so bear with me here... First of all, GREAT guitar sound, the tone is very full and well-bodied. The vocals sound good in the context of the mix. They are EQ'ed well and for the most part the performance is spot on. I hear an ocasional sour note every once in a while, but...

    "Falling"

Hey man, Falling sounds great, I really don't have much feedback at all, except that the synth piano (organ?) that comes in at the intro is just a tad piercing. It could be my phones, it could be that I always listen to stuff really loudly. Either way, this is a VERY nice mix, and a great...

    Opinions on original metal song?

Hey Minerman, Thanks for listening! The way I record my drums is I first write them as a midi track using this program called Tabit (very similar to guitar pro). I actually write the whole song in tabit, and then export the drums, bass, synth, whatever non-guitar tracks I will need. I then...
