i play sabian aa 14's and i think they sound fantastic. I play a mix of harder/alternative/misc. they were $80 for a "new" pair on ebay. you could add rivets or something for all hard drumming.
hey ride- if you're still out there can you give an overhead shot of your entire kit? You said you had floor toms, right? I'd like to see how spread out it is and how far your floor toms are from your "mounted" toms.
nice ride.....that's what I thought it might look like. I'm going to give it a shot. my kit will have a totally different feel but I love the proximity of the toms and snare.
all good stuff! you guys are coming on strong. The instructor I took lessons from earlier worked out of a drumshop along with other teachers who market themselves to the public. I really do see it as a bussiness venture first (for them) and a teaching venture next. I think they are used to...
hey ride I want to see a pic of your set-up. I'm having trouble seeing how to make this work with how I have things arranged now. Are the toms in front of your bass or to the left side? What you describe is exactly what I want- my mounted toms surrounding and not much higher than my snare.
yeah I definately like playing the aa's live but I'm looking for something better for recording. Have you played hhx hats? They sure go for a lot on ebay.
I'm with you on the cymbals. I'm playing sabian right now, with an hhx 21" dry ride, 16" hh dark crash and 14" aa hi-hats. My room leaves lots to be desired, however. It's a small 3rd bedroom- 10' x11'. I'm not sure the omni's are the right thing to do....
spot on littledog. I'm planning on 4-channel recording for a while to be upgraded in the future. I'd like to do kick, snare and 2 overheads. I want strong tom sound in the mix, though, and I'm worried about the overheads picking up too much cymbal and not enough drum. I know that most of...
I started thinking the same thing- I bought the wrong set-up. I've played with raising the mount so it gives me more angle to play with on the toms but it still does raise the center point of the head to do this. What do you mean by raising the kick?
I've been looking at threads for overheads the last several days and haven't event seen these. How would they compare to oktava 012's, rode nt5, akg c1000, shure sm81, etc? the way you describe them they sound pretty good....
jblount comes through again! I haven't used a damn thing. I have a shure 57 and a akg 414 tl2 but that's it. I bought these before I played drums for vocals, acoustic/elec guitar. I'm thinking about selling the akg and buying 2 overheads and a Kick mic. The overheads I'd like to also use on...
hey, I'm looking into buying a new pair of overheads at no more than $300/pr. As I've read elsewhere, I want to try to drop them below cymbal level, to the drummer's elbow or tom level to enhance drum sound and deemphasize cymbal sound. I'll also have a dedicated snare/hi-hat mic and kick...
hey! I have an older yamaha recording custom (pre-Yess) and although I've adjusted them multiple times, I've never been happy with the mounted tom heights- they are always too high. I think this is partly due to the depth of the toms- 10" for the larger. I think that I also like to sit a...
hey! sorry I've been away, the last couple of days have been a drag. I played last night and it just didn't go right, you know? Anyways, I've decided to not immediately look for a new teacher. I don't even know how to look (should I start interviewing them about their methods?). I'm going...
no doubt.....i thought about suggesting that we build on each others beats and bring back variations each week- but he seemed so disinterested in the actual teaching thing. I wonder though if this sort of experience might just be average. I guess I'm pessimistic. Wouldn't it be cool to just...
here's my deal....i took lessons for several months, trying to stick it out, but it just wasn't working for me. This dude really wanted me to just learn songs and picked ones that I didn't care for. I dropped that weeks ago and have been improving more rapidly since. Question is should I find...
