Hi Gang.
While looking for a nice graphic eq, I came across a guy on the web selling one of these for about $120.
It's a dual 30-band unit, which means I can devote 60 faders to a single track, or give 30 each to two different signals. Each fader controls 1/3 octave. It looks like it's in...
Hi Trenna.
While I have never used the Yamaha piece you mention, I know that a lot of music software has an internal recording level that you can set (like Cubase VST, for one).
By adjusting this control, you can keep your spikes from getting in the red. There may be something like this in...
Hi Gang.
Maybe because my experience behind a recording console is limited, or because I am a member of the Gen-X digital era (or both), I simply cannot tell the much-discussed difference between an analog recording and a digital one.
I have heard musicians like Lenny Kravitz make the case for...
Hi Mojo.
First-- I feel your pain! With the help of all the folks in this room I am finally learning how best to hook up my external fx to my Fostex 450 board.
If your board is like mine, maybe this will help. You will need two regular RCA cables and two RCA-pairs-to-one 1/4" jack converters...
Hi Emeric.
Thanks for the tips about turning off the redrawing. Will do.
Unfortunately, my Mac is one of the few models made whose CPU cannot be upgraded. It's soldered right onto the motherboard. So for now, it's use as many cheats as possible to keep it trim enough for Cubase.
Hi Gang.
I'm running Cubase 4.0 on a PPC 7200/120. While I dream of getting a new G3, the reality is that I will pick up a G4 if and when they ever go on the market.
I've maxed out the RAM on this puppy, but doing any serious amount of digital audio is still tricky. I found that the CPU can't...
Duh, McFly--
After playing around, I found that pressing in the little IN/OUT button on the front panel made a *whole* lotta difference.
Everything's working now... even Cubase agrees with me. I only need to play around with the settings to see what works best in each application.
Hi Everyone.
I know that some of you have been debating the merits & drawbacks of compressors, and now that I am getting signal into mine, I though maybe I could get your insight into something.
Since some of the veterans around here have been telling us that the mark of a good compressor is...
You flatter me by calling what I wrote a joke! I don't think I want to explore Faraday cages, but I'll take a guess and say that they are for blocking out unwanted RFs?
Hi Again, Sig.
Maybe I'm not up to speed on my terminology--
when you say "overdrive," does that means that you are looking for an fx processor that adds various kinds of distortion to your signal? Like a guitar overdrive? If so, you may want to check out some of the rack-mount processors made...
Hey Blue--
Just out of curiousity, why PC? Using a Mac as the heart of my home studio, I'm always interested to hear what other digital audio folks are using.
Cheers!
Hi Gang.
Sorry I've not piped-in since posting the original message, but I've been studying for an audio engineering exam these past few days. (Went very nicely, happy to say!)
Thanks to all who posted replies & added their own questions. Here's a synopsis of what I've learned about balanced...
Hey Sig--
Thanks for the advice! I just purchased a IMP 2 DI box for $40 new. Just hooked it up & noodled around with it.
While I have not yet tested the gain to see if it helps keep the pre-amp down, I already notice that the hiss is a LOT less. I'll tinker around some more tomorrow & let you...
Hey Gang.
Thanks to all who replied to my earlier post re: balanced/unbalanced lines. I'm printing out all of your replies as I type.
I plug my electric guitar directly into my recording console when I want to record. My audio teacher recently recommended I use a D.I. box instead-- plug the...
Hi Gang.
I'm taking a class on Audio Engineering at the moment, and I'm getting pretty lost in all the discussion surrounding balanced and unbalanced lines. Bear in mind that my knowledge of electricity can be summed up in the phrase: it hurts.
I don't what makes one kind of line balanced or...
Hey Friends--
Seems like I can't open a pro audio magazine without reading a dozen ads for pre-amplifiers. As far as I understand it, my recording console has built-in pre-amps in the gain/trim controls. I've never noticed a problem with them.
Does paying for a seperate pre-amp significantly...
