    peavey valve king?

Although Mesa is a nice amp, having two guitarists with same amps in a band can bring new problems. Especially two Mesas that eats alot of space.

Question about backing up hard drive on HD24

I always thought it was pretty obvious that when making HD2 a copy of HD1, what was on HD2 will be lost? But I agree the manual maybe could be a tad clearer about this.

    Online Stores

Mor likely a victim of their own unflexibility. Shurely all those powered monitor manufacturers need a partner with experience in making amps for monitors?

    What does "Phase Reverse" do?

Phase, time alignment, and polarity are three different things. A phase switch on your average console switches the polarity, the only thing wrong here is the labelling of the button. You can make a out-of-phase-sound sound better with switching polarity, or moving it in time in your DAW. But...

    beginner drum mic'ing question

You can gate out alot of the hi-hat by using a trigger mic on the bottom of the snare. Gate the top mic, and run the trigger mic to the gates key input to control the gate. Personally though, I like bleed on drums.

Rock Drums OH: X-Y or Spaced Pair? Kit also close mic'd.

I prefer going x/y. I adjust the width, intimacy and tom vs cymbal ratio of the kit with panning and height of x/y mic placement. I've gotten great results from spaced pairs too, it's just isn't my prefered choice.

    Which Preamp For Sm7b?

I thought that didn't need mentioning, but yes, of course it does.

    Which Preamp For Sm7b?

Yes, when using high output mics on loud sources, such as a TLM103 or various Earthworks mics as drum overheads as an example. That would almost certainly overload your preamp if +20dB was the lowest you could go. Many modern condensers have a very hot output, so it should definately be taken...

HOW should I mic this kit?

You could also try this little trick, one mic only. Place the KSM27 Condenser 3 feet in front of the kick, in height with the hihat, pointing at the snare. That should cover more than you'll expect. Add the other mics where you think this technique leaves gaps, maybe the SM58 at the beater side...

I got 3 outboard racks and a GF with natural 75DD so I got my setup. :D

    My Dream Mic Signal Chain.

Well. If you get a bad sound with that setup, you can't blame the gear. Personally though, I would prefer the AKG C414B/ULS and a Great River pre for a similar setup, which to me would be both better sounding and more versatile. Start saving, nothing on that list is ridicolusly expensive.

    Harddrive failure on a HD24

Always, always do backups. I keep everything considered important on 2 separate HD24 drives, as well as later backing them up to a PC from where they get burned to CD-ROM's. Overkill? You can't do overkill when it comes to backups.
