    Guitar midi interface

Sonuus G2M v.2--plug it into a fast computer, and it tracks pretty well. I'll settle for monophonic for $100.00.

    Any ebow users?

I like the "glissando bar" as used by Steve Hillage and Reeves Gabrel--a 10"-12" piece of steel rod (1/4"to 5/16" dia.) or a long #2 Phillips screwdriver if you like a handle. Use this over the fingerboard with flange, chorus or delay--you can usually get 2 or 3 strings going at once with a...

Recording with a Dual Deck Cassette Player

There's used 4 tracks on C'list, seen them as cheap as $20.00 with a mic (last week). I went that route for years, but not being able to do small edits instead of re-doing whole sections got to be a drag. If you've got that kind of time, knock yourself out.

Has anyone used an old bus or portable building as a studio?

It would take a lot of treatment to not sound like the inside of a tin can, but people use storage units as practice spaces, so maybe.

What's your favourite instrument and why did you pick it?

According to Mark Twain,"A gentleman is someone who plays the banjo, but doesn't." Wonder if he ever came up with anything for harmonicas?

    squire telecaster custom

You're lucky you got one with 22 frets, most of the new ones have reverted back to 21. Surely these "traditionalists" aren't the only ones buying guitars.

    Fender - Not so impressed....

If I were going to buy a new Fender, I'd go to a well stocked dealer and play a few, you might find something you like out of all of them. Back when I first started playing Strats, you had four choices--vibrato, hardtail, rosewood, or maple. Custom color? Order it and check back in six months...

Which MIDI controller for a noob???

At the moment, I have a first issue MAudio Axiom I bought used. Easy to set up in Logic Express 9 and adjustable sensitivity on the pads, plus a nice feel to the keyboard. I also have an Akai MPK 25 I use with my laptop, works well and fits right into the laptop bag.

What's your favourite instrument and why did you pick it?

I started guitar when I was twelve, probably the result of listening to WAMO (a great R&B station out of Pittsburgh). Me and my little five watt amp were the scourge of the neighborhood, especially when my friend next door got a drumkit. Later I picked up bass, harmonica, and gradually became a...

2 P90's - pick up height and other general questions

A couple years ago, I put a 4 way switch into a MIM Tele, the series setting sounded a lot like parallel p90s. Now I have one of the Epi LP Special p90's--the first mod will probably be the push-pull series switch.

Thirty watts is enough to piss off any mom--found that out with my last GF, lol.

    Guitar Beaters

Since I haven't owned a gibson in 35 years and never owned a martin (or Martian, as they're known on local c'list), I don't have any fragile guitars, although I do have a couple nice ones that stay in their cases, the rest are out ready to be played. I have seen my fair share of owner stupidity...

    Squiers getting good again?

Mine didn't need much except strings, action lowered and my usual All Parts 5/8" strap button on the upper bout. I'd originally heard the pups were ceramic, but they're A5--they're just new. I'd like to figure out a way to degauss them, I'm used to hearing '50's & '60's P90s.

    How are the GarageBand plug-ins?

I was finally able to upgrade to GarageBand '11, even though I already have Logic Express 9. Mainly because GB is quick and easy to get something started--you can then move over to Logic if you need to do more. The plugins are pretty good, good enough now that they also are used in Logic. You...

    Squiers getting good again?

Most of the newer Squiers are pretty good, even the Affinity's have gotten better. Given FMIC's previous history, I'm surprised they're letting that happen. The Squier Strat I have is pretty decent for an older one--but I did do some fine tuning, SD bridge pup, 22 fret neck, etc. I also like...

    Look at the price

Actual manufacturing cost is probably no more than a Valve Jr. This is worse than the Apple Tax.

    Sample Tank - WTF!

I wouldn't have bothered with ST on this computer, but some of the sounds are pretty good for free(Stick, etc.), so I went through the whole mess again. Every couple years, it's sorta like a colonoscopy, without the nurses.

How to recover range after surgery

I think I'm starting to make some progress again, got the OK to start riding my exercise bike--hopefully that'll help build up my wind. I'll have to see if we have any fonotherapists here, that's new to me. As it is, I'm still dealing with a blood clot in my leg that didn't get diagnosed until...
