    Help us replace our O2R

We've been relying on (and loving) our Yamaha O2R, but it's very used and reaching the end of its life. One channel doesn't work, others are getting noisy, the motorized faders are not working well, etc. I considered trying to repair it, but I assume I'll do more damage than good while spending...

Are overhead mics just too subjective?

Ok, so no dynamics then. I believe Audix sells a kit that includes the D6 and 3 dynamics. I was considering going that way, but nope. Pads are OK. I'm over my attenuator skepticism. Thanks. Miro or Steen, do you have any recommendations? Miro, why LDC not SDC?

Are overhead mics just too subjective?

Thanks Boulder, I'll take that. Do you have any recommendations for overheads? Does anyone use (and love) dynamics for overheads?

Are overhead mics just too subjective?

That's the info I'm looking for! So, you're saying the 81 has the ability to handle a louder drummer slightly better than the NT5 if used correctly? I'm always skeptical of mics with switches, should I look for, or be afraid of a mic with a 15db attenuator?

Are overhead mics just too subjective?

Excellent, thanks everyone! Gecko, I have found in the past that I can't always get a condenser far enough away from the cymbals to not clip. I'm worried that if I spend money on condensers, the combination of my placement restrictions and my drummer's volume will be too loud for a sensitive...

Are overhead mics just too subjective?

Thanks for responses folks. mixsit, I'm not near the set now, I don't know the models, but representing the kit. I think i've given up on the dream of close micing everything for now. But I'm hoping to get good stereo. My space is a little tight, is the NT5 too hot to sit close to the top of the...

Are overhead mics just too subjective?

I’m having a hard time finding “go-to”, or “industry favorite ” overhead mics. I’m trying to upgrade my band’s drum mics and I think I need some assistance picking overheads. I have a grown-up blues-rock band. Our recording space is small, not too bright, minimally acoustically treated, with...

    My board needs some love

I apologize if this isn't the best choice of forum, I don't see a Mixer or Yamaha forum, but I'd love some insight..... We have a VERY used Yamaha 02R. We got from a friend at a GREAT price and have been thrilled with it for a few years. We know very little about its history, but it's not new...

    Clarify the term "Drum Overheads"

I haven't been to the forum in a few months (crazy summer) but I gotta say, this thread rocked! It reminds me of my early, newbish days on the forum..... posting wild ideas, yelling at Greg.... ...good times.... OP, if you're still reading, the most frustrating part is Greg tends to be right a...

    Multi-band compressors. How? Where? When?

Groovy, thanks for all the input! I think I'd make more use from a single-band compressor. Does that exist, a compressor that will only effect a small frequency range? Like a de-esser, but more variable? The times I've wanted to use a MBC I think I felt the bands were to too large and not...

    Multi-band compressors. How? Where? When?

I feel like I never see anyone talk about multi-band compressors. I've played with a few. I feel like my mix sounds "better" with a multi-band on the master bus, but then I start tweaking it, get intimidated, and ditch it. Do you use multi-band compressors? When? Where? How?

    Consistancy and workflow

Groovy, thanks guys. It sounds like I'm on the right track.

    Consistancy and workflow

Yeah, my goal is for the album to sound like one album that was created in one place at one time, not sound like an amalgamation of random recordings. That's the only reason I ask. I'm nervous to get a year into the project and have every tune sound differently. I'm not overly effecting...

    Consistancy and workflow

I'll start with my usual disclaimers: I apologize if this is too newb-y, let me know if we should relocate this thread. My band is recording our 1st self-produced, individually multi-tracked, full length album. Until now we've been recording "live", mixing each tune individually, then tossing...

    Changing Tempo After Tracking

Awesome. It all sounds pretty convoluted, I've been biding my time hoping to good short-cuts would come out of the woodwork. I'm pretty surprised I can't just tell Sonar, "Hey, we recorded this at 83bpm".

    Changing Tempo After Tracking

I apologize if this should be part of my last thread, but it feels like a different question to me so... We tracked the tune to an exterior click at 83 bpm. When I change the tempo in Sonar to 83bpm some tracks move. I have 4 tracks that are just a few measures long in the middle of the tune...

    Parallel Mixing: Send vs Clone

Cools, thanks for the input guys. I've been in the clone camp but I think I'm swapping over.

    Parallel Mixing: Send vs Clone

When parallel mixing, what is the best way to create the parallel track? I see people doing it 2 different ways and I don’t see a difference. Does one method have advantages over the other? 1: Clone original track, so you have 2 identical tracks. Add effects to the new track. 2: Add a pre-fader...
