Tascam has lists of qualified repair places that can probably send you a head. Replacement heads are expensive though -- usually have to replace the whole transport (or so I'm told). It might be cheaper to take it to a tech for diagnosis at least, so then you can decide what to do.

Check out the Dearmond's by Guild --- great guitars, humbucking pickups, and can be had for decent prices on ebay --- they're not in production anymore. I love mine - wouldn't trade it for the world. Here's an example...

Yeah, I do that too, but most are expounding the values of DTRS tape, ebay auctions for DTRS tape, non-existant sellers of DTRS tape, and expensive DTRS tape. I was hoping that someone on here who actually uses the stuff would have a supplier they could turn me on to, preferably one in Canada.

Ack! Bought a used DA-88 off ebay, supposedly in working condition. Having problems with my DA-88 I was getting some error codes. Took it in for servicing the guy looked at it, and in two days had 'fixed' it. Ran a tape through it in the shop, it seemed to work ok. Well, I get it home...

Alright, the Tascam m-1508 which is currently winging its way towards me is apparently (by design) lacking phantom power. What unit should I get to supply p.p. to mics that require it. I'm looking for an inexpensive but decent quality solution. Thanks guys --- I know you'll be able to help...
