After seven years of DAW, I will NEVER abandon tape again.

Actually...the transferring of hearing (and vision) to the brain has some "digital like" processes...those sound waves don't just get injected into the brain as a continuous analog-like process. Apparently when we hear & see there is a very high-rate cyclical thing going on...like the frames of...

Warm Audio Bus Comp - ratio backwards?

Mmm...I'm not seeing where shorting Ring to Sleeve is a recommended option...except in a single specific situation. I guess the question is...are you talking about controlling hum/ground issues...or to solve the +6 dB issue with the Warm Audio gear? Also, I would think that if using some of the...

    Screw down engineered flooring?

I just did about 2000 sq. ft. of hardwood flooring...not the engineered stuff, but the boards go in pretty much the same way...there is a specific flooring nail gun and cleats that you use for flooring...if that's what you mean when you say "nailing down". If you're talking about...

I still use the 60/40, it's just a much better solder...and when I'm doing all day solder work, I'll put a small fan next to the bench to suck away the smoke...not so much because I'm worried about the lead poisoning, but just to keep the smoke out of my nose, because it's actually the resin...

As messy as that looks....and fraught with potential buzz/hum issues... :D ...this is how it was before I tore it apart, and pretty much buzz-free. Well OK...I get a buzz when I need to. ;) Believe it or not...all my studio wiring was actually very "quiet", considering the miles and miles...

    Studio Build Documentation

You don't know the half of it. Considering that the basic construction was done back at the end of March...you would think, "should have had the studio up and running by now"...but man, I've just been endlessly swamped with all kinds of work I needed to get done before I got to the...

    Studio Build Documentation

The last few days I had to empty out the old studio space...had the carpet measuring folks over, and the new carpet is on order for my entire downstairs area, including the old studio space...so it was time to finally break down the old and move it all into the new. The last pieces of the old...

After seven years of DAW, I will NEVER abandon tape again.

TBH...I don't even concern myself with how high up I can still hear or not...I find that it's not as critical BECAUSE it's mostly about high-harmonics, and if you have the tonal balance right in the lower hearing range...that stuff way up there tends to fall into place, and I'm sure some teenage...

After seven years of DAW, I will NEVER abandon tape again.

Yeah...I see that more and more...people bringing analog hardware into their previously all ITB work...and some even trying out tape or returning to it to augment their ITB rigs. It's not about choosing one or the other...I think people are simply realizing that you can expand your work options...

After seven years of DAW, I will NEVER abandon tape again.

Mmm...not sure what you mean...? I don't use Dolby or DBX, and my tape tracks are very usable...and actually, surprisingly quiet/clean AFA any tape noise...and I'm only working at 15ips. I've listened to the dead air between audio on tracks that I transferred to my DAW...and it's almost at the...

Compare a mix to your Master?

What I meant...is the OP simply looking for more loudness when he says his mixes don't measure up...or is there more to it than that.

Compare a mix to your Master?

OK...but ARE we just talking about loudness differences...or something more than that between the mixed and mastered versions? That's a question for the OP to answer first...what was different between your mix and the "nicer" sounding Soundcloud master?

Can you figure out this bass tone?

    YouTube blocked that video...copyright stuff.

Vocal booth - yey or ney?

If you're going to build a booth like that guy in the video...you could just as easily put up a mic in a clothes closet, and get the same results/ There are reasons to use a booth (but I mean a real sound booth)...to isolate vocals from other musicians during recording...to block outside noise...

Compared to the 2" tape deck and the console, and Hammond...the rocks were easier! :D Only thing...the rocks took a few days to complete, so I was worn down for a long time...but the audio stuff today we moved in about 45 min...but oh my poor back! :( This is it...I'm never moving again...not...

    Studio Build Documentation

Well to day was the nut busting day....I'm still looking for one of mine...:p...had a guy come help me move the 5 big/heavy items - 2" tape deck, console, Hammond, Leslie and the 1/4" Ampex tape deck w/cart. The 2" tape deck went fist, and man...I didn't think we were going to make it up the...

Things that make me go hmm...

Why do they sand them...or also acoustics...? It's to remove the finish, since some people find it makes moving their hand up/down the neck harder (the clear finish combined with damp hands, makes for a stickier combination. I've always preferred that bit of "tackiness" that you get out of the...

Been tearing down the old studio the last few days...finally...I needed to get the room empty since I'm going to be re-carpeting the room along with my entire downstairs, and that room will become a new master bedroom, as I reconfigure my downstairs spaces now that I have a new studio. I've got...

    Analog-digital integrated setups?

I think the question was more to do with standalone pres...should their mic inputs be on the same patch bay as everything else...or on a dedicated XLR mic input bay.
